)We have a. Briggs powered 20 inch Victus push mower which is on its last legs (some 14 years old. It is used on a larger than average lawn, which has obstactles such as trees and shaped flower beds. It takes just over an hour to cut front and back lawns. As we are older now I am thinking of replacing with a self powered similar sized model, as the wife wants to be able to cut the grasss when I am away – hopefully that makes sense. Assuming so, I am thinking about (in no particular order) – The ACTO 20S, Mountifeld SP53 Stiga, and the Webb Classic 20 inch. They are all about the same price – any thoughts on these or better alternatives much appreicated

All of the brands you mentioned—ATCO, Mountfield, Stiga, and Webb—are of a similar quality level and would be reliable replacements. However, since you are looking for something easier to manage as you get older, have you considered moving over to a cordless battery mower or even a robot mower? These options are much lighter and remove the hassle of petrol and pull-starts.

To give you the best advice, what is the total size of your lawn? I also have a selection tool on my website where you can input your specific requirements to get a shortlist of the best mowers for your circumstances: https://easylawnmowing.co.uk/find-the-best-lawnmower/

Thanks Matt for your kind thoughts. As we have a large garden, and some tougher grass I initially focused on a petrol replacement for power, but this time with the self powered feature, Your Mountfield SP53 recommendation came up, and the ATCO Classic 20S is basically a green painted Mountfield, with the added feature of a wash port. Both those mowers now have bag full indicator, and a soft grip handle. The Webb is a similar cost, but has some features I'd ideally like, and has a Sanli based Webb engine. I did also consider cordless battery mowers and the two that fitted the bill were the Cobra 20 inch steel deck one, plus the EGO 19 inch - the Cobra fitting my needs a little better (mulching). The issue with the cordless battery ones is that as new technology the cost is somewhat higher, mitigated a bit by lower maintenance (although the batteries will periodically need replacing). The three petrol mowers are available on offer at circa £325 with in some cases free blades and oil, The Cobra battery one is £499 on offer, the EGO £550. Your website was the best I could find for assisting the decision - it is much appreciated. The positve for Mountfield possibly has better parts availability due to its market size.
