Petrol or Electric roller mower?
♥ 0 | Hi Mark, Interested to find your website and some of your videos and hoping you can give me a steer please. I have an 11 year old Mountfield (S421RHP) that has a roller and a 41cm cutting deck. It has served me well but has now rotted and I need to replace. I wish to retain a roller and the 41cm width works for storage purposes. I have not bought an electric mower previously but recognise this is an opportunity to do so. My running time tends to be about 50-60 mins which might be at very the upper end of the battery usage. Your mention of the Cobra RM435P80V sounds promising if I were to go electric. Mountfield do an updated equivalent in both petrol and electric and you may have others to mention but fundamentally I’m not certain on whether I should be buying electric or petrol at this point in time – any thoughts will be gratefully received please! Private answer I have just cut my lawn today of 500 square metres following scarification using the Cobra Cordless mower and can honestly say that this is one of the best larger cordless mowers I have tested. It almost allowed me to cut my 500 square metres twice on a single charge. It cuts and picks up exceptionally well, leaving some well defined and long lasting stripes. The self propulsion makes light work of the job. Regarding your question about replacing your Mountfield S421RHP, you're at an interesting crossroads. Battery technology has improved dramatically in recent years, making cordless electric mowers a viable option even for larger lawns like yours. The Cobra RM435P80V is indeed an excellent choice if you decide to go electric. With your 50-60 minute mowing time, you should be within its capabilities on a single charge. Plus, you'll benefit from lower maintenance costs, quieter operation, and zero emissions. How large is your lawn in terms of square metres? While the updated Mountfield electric models are also good options, the Cobra tends to offer excellent value for money and reliable performance. At this point in time, I'd recommend making the switch to electric. The technology is mature enough now, and the benefits (no fuel storage, lower maintenance, quieter operation, instant starting) generally outweigh any concerns about runtime for a lawn of your size.
