Best robotic mower for my set-up

Best robotic mower for my set-up

Hello

Thanks for the great content, very helpful! I am looking for a robotic mower, for convenience, but struggling to find the best fit option.

My situation:
– Have a front garden which is on a steep slope (circa 21% gradient), rear garden which is flat, both modest size
– As the property is on a steep hill, neither garden is at the same level as the house, and there is no power to either. So a docking station that allows for automated mowing would not be practical – I’ll be carrying the mower back and forth the gardens, and the charging / docking would be done probably in the garage
– Wifi won’t reliably reach either garden, at least not covering the whole area. 4G signal is basically non-existent
– I’d ideally want to minimise hassle in the set-up and operation as main motivation is convenience, but expecting to have to carry mower to different garden sections and not hopeful of much automation

Would appreciate any pointers on options. The Worx looked good, but wasn’t sure if it was suitable for the garden steepness – thanks!

Thank you very much for the kind words! Regarding your situation, the WORX models currently need to start cutting from their charging station and do not have a "drop and mow" feature.

The only mowers I have tested that offer "drop and mow" are the LUBA 2 Mini, LUBA 3 AWD, and the YUKA. However, I can't help thinking that manually moving the mower negates the whole point of a robotic mower, which should be a hands-off experience; "drop and mow" is really best suited for one-off tasks.

LawnMaster does offer the OcuMow range, which are camera-guided and do not require a charging station in the garden. However, these mow in a random pattern and will still leave a fair amount of edge trimming to be done manually.

Before committing to a manual setup, is there any way the garden could be adapted to accommodate a fully hands-off mower? For example, extending your Wi-Fi or installing ramps/paths? Achieving full automation is where you will see the most benefit from the investment.

Kind regards, Mark

Thanks Mark, appreciated. I shall have a look at those drop and mow options in a bit more detail. Unfortunately it is not at all feasible to achieve full automation due to the property being on a steep hill - the front and back gardens are more accurately terms top and bottom gardens, there must be 15 metres height difference and separated by steep steps. I fear drop and mow with robot mower is the closest to automation I can achieve, but I hope it beats the current hassle of carrying a full lawnmower and extension cable up and down.
