Charging station in the borders, flush with the lawn?

0

Hi, I’ve just had a LawnMaster delivered (OcuMow® 18 MX 24V | Auto Charging Vision Robotic). My lawn is small with waved edges then large flower borders. The edges of the lawn are more than the required height above the beds, so Im confident all will be fine from this point of view.

I’d like to build a base in the flower beds where the charging station could sit, that is flush with the lawn and stable etc. This would be a lot less imposing and have a huge chunk of lawn space.

This mower uses cameras, not boundary wires. Is there a way to have the mower dock on a charging station that sits flush with the edge of the lawn? Any workaround where I could create some sort of grass corridor around the base, and if so then how wide? I would really rather the station wasn’t amongst the lawn, any help appreciated

LawnMaster states that the charge station needs to be on the lawn. However, the OcuMow 18 uses GPS to get the mower back to the general area of the charging station, it then uses the orange stripes to navigate precisely onto the charging station, so in theory your idea may well work.

The best thing to do is to try it and see how reliable this set up is. The mower needs to be able to recognise the orange stripes on the charging station, so ensure they remain visible.

If you decide to create a corridor approach, make it wide enough for the mower to navigate easily—at least 1-2 feet on either side of the charging station would be ideal.

Since this is a camera-based system rather than boundary wire, the primary concern is whether the visual navigation can reliably guide the mower to the charging station positioned at the edge rather than surrounded by lawn as designed. So essentially is the mower happy to leave the mowing area to charge, please let me know how you get on. Mark
