Mammotion
| ♥ 0 | Hi Mark, I hope you’re having a lovely day. I am looking to buy a robot mower to service my almost 200sqm garden. I am trying to decide between the Yuka Mini 2 1000sqm with the Lidar system and the Luba Mini 2 AWD 1000sqm. I work mostly away from home so for the past 3 or 4 years my garden didn’t get much attention and now I have a lot of moss and weeds all over. It is generally flat, with a bit of a slope under the live hedge on the left side, tall wooden fence on the right side, a couple of trees on the other side of the fence from my neighbour, brick wall half height on one end and a raised decking at the other. I have really strong wifi, the access point is right at the boundary of the garden. The charging station will be installed in the garden, in front of the wall, because I have steps so I can’t place it anywhere else. I thought the Yuka would be the best option because of it’s Lidar system in case the trees, the hedge or the fence prove to create difficulties for the RTK system. I think the slope wouldn’t be that much of an issue for it. I do however like the look of the Luba, the idea of edge cutting and the cameras. I am a bit of a geek, I would like to integrate it with Home Assistant, I would like to have as much control over it and occasionally to be able to check it’s on board camera to see it at work. I am concerned that the Luba might struggle a bit with getting a gps fix and since I have wifi, I think the overall set up would be hassle free long term without subscriptions or other similar factors. But if I do need the 4G, it is what it is. Ideally I would like to get as much work done by the machine so I can get rid of my current battery powered Makita tools and hopefully this would help my lawn recover from the weeds and moss. I am contemplating on which option I can use to resolve the edge trimming issue even if that means creating a border around the grass so I don’t need the trimmer anymore maybe some artificial grass strip or something similar. Maybe you can advise? Your set up looks really neat so obviously you have good taste. Could you give me a rough idea of how often the blades would need replaced? I think I read somewhere that they need to be turned after 50hrs and replaced after 100hrs. That doesn’t seem like a lot of time between cuts before new blades are needed. Your videos are amazing so obviously you have extended knowledge when it comes to the subject, what would you recommend? Also, does Amazon offer the same 3 year warranty as Mammotion on the purchase? I want to buy once, buy right and enjoy the benefits. Thank you, ANSWERED Marked as spam Add comment |
| Private answer Hi Adrian, Thank you for the kind words about my videos! It sounds like you have a great project ahead of you in the Highlands. Regarding your technical questions, you should be able to integrate a Mammotion mower with HomeAssistant, which is great for a fellow geek. However, I do not believe it is currently possible to access the live camera feed directly through Home Assistant—though I haven’t tested that specifically, so I could be wrong. You would likely still need the Mammotion app for the visual "check-ins." On the maintenance front, my experience is a bit more relaxed than what you’ve read. I normally turn my blades twice during the cutting season and sometimes change them once. However, my lawn is clear of sticks, branches, and debris, and the mower goes out every other day so it’s only cutting fine tips. If your lawn has a lot of moss and weeds initially, you might see more wear early on, but once it's under control, the blades last well. For the edges, unless the mower can physically straddle the edge of the lawn (ie the wheels can go past the grass line onto a flat border), there will always be some trimming required. Modifying your borders with a flat strip so the mower can overlap is a very smart move if you want to ditch the manual trimmer entirely. Between your two choices, if you can stretch the budget, I would recommend the LUBA Mini 2 AWD. I personally prefer the four-wheel drive for better traction, and it features a dedicated edge-cutting disk. You are correct that there is no LiDAR version of the LUBA available in the UK at the moment, but since you have excellent Wi-Fi, the NetRTK system should work perfectly for navigation and positioning, even with your trees and fences. Regarding the warranty, I’m not 100% certain if Amazon provides the exact same 3-year terms as buying direct, but I generally find that returns via Amazon can be a lot easier to navigate. It sounds like a LUBA Mini 2 would be a fantastic "buy once, buy right" solution for your garden. Let me know if you have any more questions.
