I have used Cobra lawn mowers in the past and have always been very impressed with their build quality and performance. So, you can imagine my delight at being able to try out the new Cobra MX4340V cordless lawn mower.
This model is ideal for medium sized lawns with its 43 cm cutting deck and boasts a 5.0Ah, 40 v battery that gives you a very generous run time. Not to mention the smart power technology which ramps the power up when you’re tackling longer or more challenging lawn.
I found the Cobra MX4340V super comfortable to use and really easy to manoeuvre. While there are some more advanced features missing, this certainly isn’t enough to warrant looking elsewhere for a good cordless lawn mower.

Power System & Batteries
If there’s one thing that the Cobra MX4340V really has going for it, it’s the power system. Normally, when you buy a 40 v cordless lawn mower, you’ll get a 2.5Ah battery but Cobra has gone the extra mile and supplies you with a 5.0Ah battery.
But why is this such an important point? Well, quite simply, you’re getting a much better running time and this model offers around 30 minutes of power per charge which is great for medium sized lawns. I tested the Cobra MX4340V out on my 500 square metre lawn and managed to get the whole area done in a single charge.
What’s more, I was really impressed with how smart the power is on the Cobra MX4340V. When you reach a patch of grass that’s longer or more challenging to cut, the power automatically amps up. Once you’re back on easier ground, the power returns to normal almost immediately. When I have used mowers with a similar function in the past, I’ve found that the power can sometimes get stuck on high which wastes valuable battery life so seeing how well the Cobra MX4340V responds to changing terrain was excellent

Battery Charger
In the box with your new Cobra MX4340V you’ll also receive a single charger for your 40 v battery. Your typical charging time is around 1 hour and 25 minutes which is impressively fast and means that you won’t have to wait around to get outside and get the job done.
I really liked the fact that there is a battery charge gauge on the batteries themselves but there’s also one on the mower’s handlebar so you don’t have to keep opening the hatch to see how much juice you have left.
Performance
I was really excited to see how well the Cobra MX4340V cordless lawn mower performed on my rear lawn and I was disappointed. I tested it out on an area that covers just shy of 500 square metres and, as I mentioned earlier, I did this on a single charge which is super convenient.
For the most part, I had the Cobra MX4340V on cutting height position 2 which is around 35 mm and this proved to be the right choice as it cut my lawn down to a presentable level with great ease. However, I do have a longer patch of grass at the back of the lawn so I decided to put the Cobra MX4340V through its paces and see how it handled this.
Imagine my surprise when I set the cutting height to position 4 (around 65 mm) and the Cobra MX4340V breezed through the long grass, amping up the power and leaving behind a very neat cut. So, I took the cutting height down to position 2 and again, this nifty little mower tackled the grass with ease.

Deck and Blade
I have used Cobra cordless lawn mowers before that have had a steel deck so I will admit that I was a little apprehensive knowing that the Cobra MX4340V comes with a polymer deck. But to my surprise, I found it to be incredibly well made and the reinforcements around the edge of the deck really add to its sturdiness and durability.
I also noticed how smooth the underside of the deck was which means it’s a lot easier to wipe any leftover grass clippings away. If you’re looking for a super low maintenance mower then this is definitely a feature, you’ll want to keep your eyes open for.
Cutting Diameter
In terms of lawn area, the Cobra MX4340V cordless lawn mower is going to be suitable for medium sized lawns. Mine is around 500 square metres and I found the Cobra MX4340V to perform very well on it.
The deck measures 43 cm, which is around 17 inches so gives a nice wide pass which allows you to cover a larger area more quickly.
However, there are other options within this range including 34 cm, 46 cm and 51 cm. Although I should mention that each of these models does come with varying features so please check out my comparison table to see which one will work best for you and your garden.
Handles
One of the features that really stood out to me when testing the Cobra MX4340V was the handlebar. Not only is it padded to reduce vibrations but the full width starter bar makes it so much easier to use. This is very similar to what you’d see on a petrol lawn mower so if you’re making the switch, you’ll have a sense of familiarity.
What’s more, the handles can be adjusted between three different height positions which is great for your posture and makes mowing more comfortable. You might be surprised to learn that not all cordless lawn mowers have this feature so it’s a really nice touch from Cobra.
If that wasn’t enough, consider that the handles fold in two places which drastically reduces the overall size of the Cobra MX4340V making it much easier to store.
Wheels
I love it when a lawn mower manufacturer adds large rear wheels as this does wonders for the manoeuvrability of the machine. This is exactly what you’ll find on the Cobra MX4340V and if you take a look at my YouTube video, you’ll see just how big a contrast there is between the front and rear wheels.
Height Adjustment
The Cobra MX4340V comes with a choice of five cutting heights ranging between 25 mm and 75 mm. I think this is more than versatile enough for most domestic situations and, when testing, I found the cutting heights easy to change and sufficient for even the longer grass at the back of my garden.
Grass Box
When you buy a cordless lawn mower of this size, you might not expect to see a huge grass box so I was really pleased to see that Cobra has included a whopping 50 litre hybrid grass catcher with this model.
I love hybrid boxes as you get the stability of a solid box but the easy storage and excellent airflow of a cloth box. What’s more, you’ll notice that there are vents on the top of the grass catcher which improve the air circulation even more.
When I tested the Cobra MX4340V out on my own lawn, I was amazed at just how well the grass box collected the clippings and with the sheer size of it, you’ll find yourself being able to cut for much longer without stopping to empty.
There is a full flap indicator on the top of the grass box which actually worked! I have often found that these flaps don’t do their job properly so you’re still left guessing but Cobra have really nailed this feature.
Finally, if you watch my Cobra MX4340V video review, you’ll see how securely the grass box fits to the body of the mower. Sometimes, the connection can be a little unreliable and when you go over bumpy ground, the grass box comes loose but that certainly wasn’t the case with the Cobra MX4340V.
Practicalities
There are so many things about the Cobra MX4340V that make it one of the most enjoyable cordless lawn mowers to use. In fact, I have been so impressed with it that I’d say it was now my top cordless lawn mower for medium lawns.
One of the things that really stood out to me was how lightweight this model is. At just 15 kg, it’s so much easier to move around than some of the models that come with bulky steel decks.
I was also really impressed with how easy the Cobra MX4340V was to assemble out of the box. It doesn’t come with tools so you will have to dig out your cross-head screwdriver but there is only one screw to fit. I found it very quick and easy to attach the handlebars and the handle to the grass box and then it’s merely a case of attaching the quick release levers and you’re good to go. I did notice that there is no mulching option or rear roller on the Cobra MX4340V which could limit the way you use the mower. However, it wasn’t the end of the world for me and not something that would deter me from using the Cobra MX4340V regularly, especially given how well it performs.
But if a rear roller is essential for you, you might wish to try the Cobra RM43SP08v which does come with a roller.
Safety Features
I like that the Cobra MX4340V comes with two safety features that prevent accidental start ups of the machine. If you have children, this is a must in terms of safety.
You’ll get one safety key so be sure to put this somewhere you won’t lose it and this must be inserted into the mower before it’ll start. Additionally, there is a starter button which must be engaged before you can use the starter handle bar and be on your way.

Should You Buy the Cobra MX4340v?
As I said earlier, I was a little apprehensive about using the Cobra MX4340V because of its plastic deck. But I was equally excited because of the many great features this cordless lawn mower boasts.
If you’re looking to switch from petrol to cordless and want a machine that performs excellently but doesn’t have a ton of features to get used to then I would recommend the Cobra MX4340V. One of the main reasons for this is the impressive power system that really does give a cut that’s comparable to petrol without the hassle of mower maintenance.
I would also recommend the Cobra MX4340V to anyone who is looking for a cordless lawn mower that’s lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. As I’ve mentioned, this model weighs just 15 kg and has large rear wheels which makes it a breeze to move around. If you have back problems and don’t want to lug a heavy mower around, this could be the answer. Plus, with those three height settings, it’s even better for your posture.
Conclusion
Overall I was really impressed with the Cobra MX4340V and absolutely blown away at how well it cut my lawn, especially with that automatically adjustable power. This is brilliant if you want to get the most out of an already generous battery life.
While there are some basic features missing, such as a rear roller and mulching plug, this really doesn’t make too much of a difference when you think about how effortlessly the Cobra MX4340V cuts the lawn.
Plus, it’s so easy and comfortable to use that I really think this could change the game when it comes to user friendly cordless lawn mowers.
As I mentioned earlier, the Cobra MX4340V is easily one of my top picks for medium lawns and something that I would have no problems recommending.
