Summary
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I was super excited to test the LUBA by Mammotion. Well, the time has come for an upgrade and I was even more ecstatic to be able to test the new LUBA 2; an upgraded and updated version with some seriously impressive tech and capabilities.
The LUBA 2 AWD robotic lawn mower is, without a doubt, some of the smartest tech in the garden tool market. Not to mention the precise cutting and flawless navigation that this model offers.
Some of the upgrades include improved waterproofing, omnidirectional wheels, a camera that compliments the RTK system and improved area coverage. What I mean by this is that the advertised area coverage actually refers to how much grass can be cut on a single charge as opposed to the distance the LUBA 2 travels including when navigating channels between zones. What’s more, there’s a 4g SIM slot giving the RTK station a much greater range of up to 5 km.
There’s so much to talk about in this LUBA 2 AWD robotic lawn mower review and if you’re keen to see this mower in action, I’ve also made a YouTube video where I show you how to assemble the mower, how to set it up and how well it performs. For the purposes of this review, I’ll be looking at the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower but keep in mind that there are four different models which I’ll explain throughout this guide.
LUBA 2 AWD 5000 Video Review
Main Features
- Front camera and RTK navigation
- Capable of up to 80% inclines
- 4g SIM
- 180 minute run time
- 8 blades
- Cut to edge
- Easy to use app
- 5000m² coverage
- IPX7
- Optional extra accessories available to purchase
Lawn Area Coverage
The LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower covers an impressive 5000m² which is ideal for large lawns and multiple zones. However, this LUBA 2 does come in four sizes which include 1000, 3000 and 10,000 which makes it perfect for gardens of every size.
That said, it is worth mentioning that the 10,000 model is only available in North America but it’s pretty easy for UK consumers to find a supplier and have it imported. Also, if you do live in the US or Canada, there is the H Range which consists of the same model sizes but has different cutting heights to suit North American grass species. I’ll talk more about cutting heights later on.
Max Incline
One of the things that Mammotion seems to do better than other leading robotic lawn mower manufacturers is incline capabilities. If you’ve got a sloped lawn, many robots will find it too much of a challenge to remain stable or even to have the power to tackle steeper inclines. But the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower breezes along slopes up to 80%, which again makes it suitable for almost every garden.
The four wheel drive design means that the grip and stability of the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower far exceeded my expectations. Plus, it’s got incredible suspension. While my lawn is flat, I can easily see how this model would work well on bumpy or sloped lawns without a hitch.
It’s also worth mentioning the omnidirectional nature of the wheels which mean that the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower can make tight turns without putting too much stress or pressure on the grass.
Charge Mow Time
According to the Mammotion website, the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower takes around two hours to fully charge, which is about what I experienced when testing this model. In terms of charging times, this is pretty standard.
You’ll also get a whopping 180 minute run time from each charge which, as you can see from my YouTube video, I found to be more than enough to get my lawn up to scratch.
Cutting Heights
Now, as I mentioned earlier, the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower does come with different cutting height settings depending on whether you’re in the UK or North America.
If you’re purchasing the UK model then you’ll get cutting heights that range between 1 inch and 2.7 inches. However, the North American H Range comes with cutting heights between 2.2 inches and 4 inches. This is to account for the difference in height between grass species.
What I love is that adjusting the cutting height is so simple. Just as was the case with the LUBA 1, everything is controlled within the smartphone app so it’s merely a case of altering the settings and the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower does everything else for you.
I also noticed that the deck automatically raises when the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower moves between zones. This is a great touch that prevents damage to the blades and makes for a smoother transition between your lawns.
If you watched my YouTube review of the LUBA 1, you’ll have seen that this model navigates your lawn via an RTK system and sensors which are placed on the mower itself. This worked very well but Mammotion has gone one better with its recent upgrade and added a camera as well.
The reason for this is that there may be times that the RTK signal is lost and this can mean that the mower is unable to properly navigate. However, with the addition of the camera, you’ve got a back up navigation system that works exceptionally well.
You’ll see from my LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower YouTube review that I placed a bucket on my lawn to test the obstacle avoidance abilities of this model. At first, the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower used its front bumper to detect the object but when I altered the settings to ‘no touch’, the RTK and camera systems detected the bucket well before the mower reached it and diverted its course accordingly.
The front bumper is an upgrade from the LUBA 1 and you’ll also notice that there’s one less sensor. On the LUBA 1, there are four sensors but there’s really no need for that fourth one on the LUBA 2 thanks to the enhanced navigation system.
Power System
The beauty of a robot lawn mower is that everything is powered automatically through the app. The LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower runs on a 25v 10Ah battery which is what gives the mower its generous running time.
Travelling at 36 metres per minute, the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower gives excellent coverage without compromising on cut quality. In my YouTube review, you’ll see that it did a really good job of trimming my lawn, especially at the front of my property where I’d allowed the grass to grow a little longer.
With a lithium ion battery, you’re getting something reliable, long lasting and powerful.
While the current LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower is powered by electricity, as of July 2024, there will be the option to purchase a solar panel which powers the charging and RTK station. This is ideal if you don’t have power close enough to the lawn or you’re simply looking for a more eco-friendly option.
Charging Station
The LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower comes with a charging station included in the box which is largely the case with these types of mowers. This charging station can be set up pretty much anywhere in your garden as long as the LUBA 2 can access it.
I wanted to have my charging station set back from the lawn a little purely to make things look tidier. At first, the LUBA 2 did struggle to get back into its charger but with a few adjustments in the app, it worked effortlessly. Again, you can see how I did this in my LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower YouTube review.
Blade
The LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower comes with two discs in the mowing deck, each of which is equipped with four blades. I was also very happy to see that there is a spare set of blades included in the box and, if you want to stock up, you can opt to purchase an additional 24 blades as part of your initial investment.
The cutting deck measures 40 cm which is generally considered medium sized when talking about traditional lawn mowers. However, with a robot mower, this deck size gives much larger coverage than if you were using a push or self-propelled model.
Control Panel And Setup
If you check out the Mammotion website, you’ll see that they rave about the fact that the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower can be set up and ready to go in as little as 18 minutes. Compare this to other leading robot lawn mowers and you’ll see just how fast this is.
Of course, I had already familiarised myself with the app after having used the LUBA 1 but even back then, I found it very easy to get to grips with, even if there was a slight learning curve.
The app is clean and user friendly and offers easy control of all of the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower’s features. Being able to do this right in the palm of your hand and from anywhere in the world is such a convenience and definitely the future of lawn care.
What’s more, Mammotion is always looking to find ways to improve their technology and pays very close attention to user feedback so that they can design an app and hardware that’s easy to use.
Before getting started, you will need to upgrade the firmware but this is super simple and the steps are laid out in the app so there’s no messing around. Again, you’ll see in my video review just how easy this is. Once your app is up and running, you can adjust the cutting height, set mowing zones, create channels between zones and much more.
But before you start playing with the app, you will need to assemble the mower itself and the charging station and RTK. I give full instructions on how to do this in my video review and I found it to be relatively easy and quick.
When most people hear the word ‘assembly’ they panic, thinking that there’s a lot of work involved. But that simply isn’t the case with the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower. In terms of the mower, it’s as easy as attaching the camera and front bumper and you’re good to go. What I really like is that Mammotion includes the required tools in the box so you won’t need to go rooting through the shed to find the right screwdriver. What’s more, underneath the camera, there’s a slot to place an Airtag if you want to keep tabs on your LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower for added security.
Next, you’ll need to assemble the charging station and RTK which again, requires minimal work. The beauty of this updated model is that you’re no longer limited to a 150 metre range with the RTK station. Instead, you have the option to insert a 4g SIM card into the LUBA 2 which gives you an enormous 5 km range. This is also beneficial if your garden is surrounded by trees that may impact the signal between the RTK station and the LUBA 2. As long as both devices have a clear line to the same satellite, you won’t have any problems. You’ll see in my video review that I placed my station along a tree line and I experienced no issues with the signal.
The LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower does come with a pole for the RTK station but there is the option to buy a wall bracket so this is a versatile piece of equipment.
Once you’re all set up and ready to go, it’s straight to the app where you can map out your lawn, set up zones and channels and have complete control. When I tested the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower, I set it up to mow my back and front lawns with a path between the two. I had no issues mapping out the areas or creating channels and once completed, the LUBA 2 went on its merry way and did an excellent job at cutting the lawn before returning to the charging station. I love that the app gives you details such as estimated mowing time and the option to get a first person view through the camera.
Mowing Features
Mulching
All robotic lawn mowers are mulching mowers so this was a feature I expected to see with the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower. The benefit of mulching is that it’s super healthy for your lawn and I have a full article on the advantages of mulching if you’d like to learn more.
Multi Zone
I used the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower on two zones but there is the option to set up to 30 mowing zones. This is incredibly versatile and, as far as I can see, covers almost every domestic mowing need there is with even the potential of moving into commercial territory. As of July 2024, Mammotion is also releasing a pattern drawing feature which is great for commercial settings if you want to have your logo mowed into the lawn, for example. Of course, this may also be an interesting feature for domestic users who want to add some personal flair to their garden.
Cut To Edge
If you take a look underneath the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower, you may notice that the blades don’t appear to go right to the edge. However, don’t be fooled. With this model, you can set it to cut right to the edge of your lawn and it’ll gradually get closer with each pass.
I love this as the last thing I want is to have to get the trimmer out after mowing, especially if I’m using a robotic tool. It just takes out all of the hard work for the user. If you’re short on time or find it physically difficult to work in the garden, the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower will do everything for you.
Rain Sensor
The LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower is equipped with a rain sensor meaning that it will return to its charging station in the event of a downpour.
That said, it does benefit from IPX7 waterproofing which is an upgrade on the IPX6 of the previous model. There were some reports of water getting into the system on the LUBA 1 so it’s good that Mammotion has taken notice of this and made the necessary adjustments.
You’ll also notice that the button design on the body of the mower is different, and this is also to ensure that no water can get into the electronics.
Safety Features
The Luba 2 robotic mower is equipped with a range of advanced safety features designed to ensure both user and environmental protection. One of its key safety mechanisms is the obstacle detection system, which utilizes sophisticated sensors to identify and navigate around obstacles, preventing collisions with objects, pets, or people. Additionally, the Luba 2 includes a lift and tilt sensor that immediately stops the blades if the mower is lifted or tilted, reducing the risk of injury. The mower also boasts a child lock feature to prevent accidental operation by curious youngsters.
Theft Prevention
The Luba 2 robotic mower is fortified with an array of anti-theft features to ensure maximum security for its users. Firstly, the mower is integrated with app notifications that alert the owner if Luba exceeds its designated mowing zones, allowing for immediate awareness and action. Secondly, it boasts real-time GPS tracking through the Mammotion app, enabling owners to monitor the mower’s location at all times. This feature not only helps in tracking the device but also deters potential theft.
Another critical anti-theft measure is ownership authentication. The first user to activate the Luba 2 becomes the rightful owner and has the ability to grant access to family members. This feature includes a “lost” mode, which prevents unauthorized use if the mower is stolen. Additionally, the Luba 2 is equipped with a geofence alarm that triggers automatically when the mower is moved outside of a predefined boundary, providing an extra layer of security. Lastly, the Luba 2 is compatible with AirTag, allowing users to reserve a spot on the mower for this device. While the AirTag is not included and must be purchased separately, its compatibility offers an added peace of mind by providing another means of tracking the mower. Together, these comprehensive anti-theft features ensure that the Luba 2 remains secure and reliable for automated lawn care.
Accessories
When you purchase the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower, you get a lot in the box which allows you to get up and running without the need to make any additional purchases. When you compare this to the likes of Stiga or Husqvarna, it’s certainly a cut above the rest.
However, there are some optional extras that you can purchase if you’d like to improve your experience of using the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower even further.
As I have mentioned, there is the option to purchase a wall bracket for the RTK station as well as a solar panel to power it. You might also wish to purchase the roof for the charging station which is ideal if you’re placing the station in an area that could be exposed to the elements.

Pro and Cons

I think it’s time that we all started preparing for the future of lawn care and robots will almost certainly be involved. While this is still relatively new technology, more and more people are jumping on the bandwagon and it’s not hard to see why.
Modern life is demanding and finding the time to take care of your lawn isn’t always easy but with the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower, you can control your lawn care from anywhere in the world with a few clicks in an app. Your LUBA 2 will then do all the hard work for you so you can get on with the important things while still having a perfectly maintained lawn.
I also think that the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower is a worthwhile investment for people who struggle to keep up with garden chores because of physical difficulties. Whether you have impaired mobility or age is catching up with you, taking care of your lawn may be a challenge. But with the type of reliable technology offered by Mammotion, there’s no need to compromise your own comfort for having a nice lawn.
Aside from that, I think that anyone looking to update their lawn care routine would do well to invest in the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower. Yes, this is expensive when compared to a traditional lawn mower but when you consider the reliability, advanced technology, ease of use and generous warranty, it’s not hard to see why it’s worthwhile.
Conclusion
When you compare the LUBA 2 5000 AWD robotic lawn mower’s technology to other leading brands like Husqvarna or Stiga, you’ll instantly see how Mammotion really has gone above and beyond. I’m not saying that there’s necessarily anything wrong with these other brands but if you’re looking for something top of the range then the LUBA 2 really will be up your street.
I had previously been impressed by the LUBA 1 but having tested this upgraded model, I have to say that I am amazed by how much Mammotion has invested in enhancing an already incredible piece of equipment.
