Why I like the LUBA Mini 2 AWD platform so much
Two things make this platform stand out for me.
The first is the four-wheel drive. Not everyone needs AWD, but when you do need it, it is a game changer. Gravel crossings, rough transitions, bumpy lawns, ramps, and steep slopes are exactly where it proves its worth.

Mapping the LUBA Mini 2 AWD 1500
Mapping is one of those things that sounds harder than it really is.
The key thing I always recommend is this:
Map counterclockwise.
Because the side cutting disc sticks out beyond the wheels, you need to think carefully about where that disc sits in relation to the lawn edge. If you want it to cut right up to the boundary without smashing into stones, walls, or borders, your mapping line matters.
The app gives you very precise manual control, and one feature I particularly like is the reverse-and-delete function. If you drift too far out while mapping, you can reverse along the line you just created and remove that section instead of starting again from scratch.

I was impressed with the obstacle avoidance on this platform, and the LiDAR-equipped 1500 should be at least as reassuring in day-to-day use.
On the standard avoidance setting, it handled larger obstacles exactly as you would hope. More importantly, it did not simply abandon the area around them. It worked around the obstacle and then came back later to clean up the surrounding grass.
That is how a smart robot should behave.

Hey there, first off, thank you for putting this helpful review together, it is BY FAR the most comprehensive review I have seen for this mower. A lot of reviewers forget how daunting the purchasing decision is for people with no hands on experience with robot mowers and they leave out a lot of details that they probably just assume everyone already knows. I am currently struggling with the purchase decision myself right now and would really appreciate any answers to my questions and/or advice.
My mowable area is 4000 sq ft (about 375 sq m, sorry, I’m in the US), though 1000 sq ft/93 sq m, is outside my fence and I will probably continue to mow that part manually. I have some slopes that I have measured at 19 degrees/35 %. At the bottom of the slope is my fence, including the corners formed from the fence. I imagine this is a challenge for robot mowers. Do you think this model will be able to handle that slope + fence corner situation without tearing up the grass?
Also, with the smaller cutting disc than the Luba 3, does this Luba Mini 2 make disappointing stripes because it’s so narrow?
Another question I had was whether you think it’s quiet enough and good enough at navigating, that night mowing in a suburban neighborhood would be acceptable? My suburb is older and the houses are closer than newer, farther away, suburbs. I would say my neighbor’s house is about 20ft from the nearest border of my lawn. Would you expect this mower to disturb someone inside their house at that distance? Also, is it possible to set it up such that it mows at night only using the LIDAR and not turn on the LED light?
Finally, if you purchase the model for short or tall cut height, is it possible to change to the other version (with a kit or small service visit) should circumstances change or just feeling that you chose wrong? I ask because I do keep different grasses in different zones, and the short height one is a bit borderline for the taller grass type but the tall height version is probably unsuitable for the shorter grass type that I also have.

Slope & Corners: I believe the Luba Mini 2 will handle your 19° slope well. However, you are right to be cautious about the fence corners; you may experience some minor scuffing of the grass as the mower maneuvers in such a tight space. In reality, you should expect to do a small amount of manual trimming around the edges and in those specific corners.
Stripes: Because the cutting disc is narrower, the stripes are thinner, but they still look very impressive! Here in the UK, we are obsessed with striped lawns, and while they aren’t as wide or defined as those from a heavy traditional roller mower, they still provide a great finish. If you aren’t a fan of the look, there is an option in the app for random cutting which varies the angle to reduce the stripping effect.
Night Mowing & Noise: I frequently run my mower at night and there is absolutely no problem with noise; it is extremely quiet and shouldn’t disturb your neighbors at a 20ft distance.
Lights: Yes, you can turn the LED lights off in the settings and it will still mow. However, just bear in mind that while the LiDAR will function, the vision-based obstacle avoidance will not be as accurate in total darkness.
Cutting Height: As far as I am aware, there is no way to convert from the standard version to the “H” (High) version or vice versa. The hardware is fixed, so it is important to choose the version that best fits your primary grass type.
