My top pick battery cordless lawnmowers for spring 2024

My top pick battery cordless lawnmowers for spring 2024

With that first mow of the year just around the corner, I decided to check out some of the latest and best cordless lawnmowers and see which ones are worth considering in 2024.

There’s a lot of good pieces of equipment out there at the moment but which you buy will depend on your needs and the size of your lawn.

In my cordless lawnmowers for spring 2024 guide, I’ll be talking you through some of my top picks and telling you why they’ve made the cut.

1. Best Overall – Cobra MX4140v

Cobra MX4140V Cordless Mower Review

Cobra are well known for producing high quality garden tools and the Cobra MX4140v is no exception. In fact, one of the first things I noticed was the excellent build quality of this machine with its steel deck that really gives it the feel of a petrol mower, without the emissions and ongoing maintenance.

With a 41 cm cutting deck, this model is ideal for gardens up to 400 square metres and also benefits from a mulching plug so you have options in terms of how you cut your grass.

When you compare the balance between performance and build quality, I think that the Cobra MX4140v is excellent value for money, especially when you consider that it also comes with a Samsung 4.0Ah 40v battery that features a power indicator.

What’s more, this impressive lawn mower comes with 7 cutting height options ranging between 25 mm and 75 mm so it’s pretty versatile. You’ll also get a large 50 litre grass box for fewer stops when cutting.

I like that the MX4140v benefits from ergonomically designed padded handles for user comfort which also fold down at both the mid and lower points for easier storage.

However, while the performance and easy use of this mower make it stand out from the crowd, I was disappointed that it doesn’t feature a rear roller. If you’re looking for a tool that will allow you to stripe your lawn then this won’t meet your needs. That said, there is an exact copy of this that does come with a roller; just look for the Cobra RM4140v instead.

  • Ergonomic handles for easy manoeuvrability and good posture whilst mowing.
  • Easy to fold up and store.
  • Fast charger with a fan to prevent the battery from overheating.
  • Centralised deck-height lever.
  • Safe start-key ignition.
  • Battery level indicator on the battery and the mower’s handles.
  • Easy storage grass box complete with full flap indicator.
  • Larger rear wheels.

2. Best Value For Money For Small Lawns – LawnMaster MX 24v CLMF2434G

LawnMaster Cordless Lawn Mower Review

I’ve always backed LawnMaster for their excellent value for money and was seriously impressed with the LawnMaster CLMF2434G which comes with a 2 in 1 mowing function, including a mulching plug and a 34 cm deck, ideal for smaller lawns.

This model comes with two 24v 4.0Ah batteries which offer a decent one hour running time which is more than enough to tackle lawns up to 200m². However, if you like the look of this model but have a slightly larger lawn, there are two other versions available with either a 37 cm or a 41 cm cutting deck.

What’s more, the batteries charge in as little as 60 minutes so there’s not much waiting around to get started. If that wasn’t enough, there are several other tools in the LawnMaster range that share these batteries so if you’re into power sharing, this could be a tool worth considering.

What really caught my attention about the CLMF2434G was that it comes with a rear roller so it’s perfect if you like that striped look. What’s more, it boasts six cutting heights between 20 mm and 70 mm so it’s pretty versatile.

The grass box holds up to 32 litres and while that might sound small, it’s standard for this size of lawn mower.

With so many brilliant features and an easy to use design with a fully foldable handle, I think that the LawnMaster CLMF2434G is great value for money.

3. Best Value For Money For Medium Lawns – Greenworks G40LM41K2X

Greenworks G40LM41K2x Review

For those of you with lawns between 200 and 300 square metres, the Greenworks G40LM41K2X is a wonderful, yet affordable investment.

One of the initial things that caught my attention was the impressive battery set up. This model comes with two 2.0Ah 40v batteries that are power shareable with a massive array of other tools including chainsaws and scarifiers, among other things. Plus, the batteries only take 30 minutes to charge! But if there was anything that I didn’t like about the batteries, it was that you’re only able to charge one at a time which could prove to be an inconvenience for some users.

But that flaw perfectly redeems itself when you consider that the Greenworks G40LM41K2X comes with both a 50 litre grass catcher and a mulching plug so you can up how you mow your lawn. What’s more, it boasts six cutting height options between 25 mm and 80 mm.

The build quality of this machine is excellent when you consider the price and it also comes with a three year guarantee which really demonstrates the confidence that Greenworks has in its tools.

However, I have to point out that the Greenworks G40LM41K2X does not come with a rear roller so this wouldn’t be the best option if you’re keen to achieve a striped lawn.

My Greenworks 41cm Video Review

To give you a visual representation of the Greenworks 41cm 40V, please watch my video review below:

Pros and Cons

  • Mulching Facility Included
  • Battery is Interchangeable with Other Greenworks Tools
  • Large 50 Litre Grass Bag
  • Great Value for Money
  • Wide Range of Cutting Heights: 6 (25mm-80mm)
  • Impressive 30 Minutes Charge Time With Fast Charger
  • This mower does not have a rear roller so you will not achieve a striped lawn finish.
  • You can only charge one battery at a time with the single charger.

4. Best Value For Money For Large Lawns – Hyundai HYM80LI460SP

Hyundai HYM80LI460SP Cordless Review

I’ve always loved Hyundai’s lawn mowers and even though this is a cordless model, the build quality and steel deck give it that petrol feel. It’s even got four mowing options including mulching, cut and collect, rear discharge and side discharge so it’s one of the most versatile on this list.

Suitable for lawns up to 500m², the Hyundai HYM80LI460SP comes with a 46 cm cutting deck and a whopping 65 litre grass catcher so you won’t be stopping every few minutes to  empty it. That said, I did notice that the full flap indicator on the grass box wasn’t as reliable as I’d like but that is a minor issue that doesn’t affect the performance of the mower.

The Hyundai HYM80LI460SP comes with two 2.5Ah batteries offering 80v of power which is ideal for larger lawns and longer grass. You’ll have fully charged batteries in just 40 minutes but it is worth noting that you can only charge one battery at a time.

The self propelled drive really made it easy to get the job done quickly and efficiently without compromising on the cut quality. However, I should point out that while the Hyundai HYM80LI460SP does have a lot of features you’d see on a petrol mower, it does lack a rear roller.

My Hyundai HYM80LI460P Video Review

If you want to see this cordless mower in action, why not see my video review below where I share all the features and functions. In addition you can see the performance and results of each cutting method including mulching, rear and side discharge.

Pros and Cons

  • Self-propelled (push model available)
  • 4 cutting options – cut & collect, mulching, side discharge and rear discharge
  • Good run-time (up to 40 mins)
  • Large grass box (65 litres)
  • Stainless steel deck
  • Good cutting width with excellent results
  • Mulching plug and side discharge chute supplied
  • Easy vertical storage option
  • No emissions and low noise
  • Powerful batteries
  • No roller for a striped lawn
  • Grass box full indicated did not always work
  • Only a single charger supplied for two batteries

5. Best For Lawn Striping – Cobra RM43SP80v

Cobra RM43SP80V Review

Having a striped lawn is very aesthetically pleasing and gives that lovely bowling green finish. Not only does the Cobra RM43SP80v lawn mower come with a full ribbed rear roller but it also has a low cutting height of just 17 mm which really adds to that bowling green appeal.

Lawn striping aside, the Cobra RM43SP80v has an array of other impressive features such as a powerful 80v motor and two 40v 5.0Ah batteries. This coupled with the 43 cm cutting deck makes it ideal for larger lawns and when I tried it on my 500m² lawn, it performed excellently.

I also really like how comfortable this mower is to use thanks to the foldable padded handles. Plus, the single speed self propelled drive runs at around 3 mph so it’s compatible with most people’s walking speed.

With a robust steel deck, a long running time of up to 45 minutes and that self propelled drive, the Cobra RM43SP80v could be compared to a more eco-friendly alternative to a petrol lawn mower.

While there’s a lot I liked about this model, I have to say that it should be considered an investment as it’s a little more on the pricey side. Plus, if you’re looking to replace the batteries or buy spares, that’s going to set you back a fair bit.

My Cobra RM43SP80v Video Review

To give you a visual representation of the Cobra RM43SP80v, please watch my video review below:

Pros and Cons

  • Powerful motor and battery interchangeable with other Cobra garden tools.
  • Perfect for a great striped lawn appearance
  • Up to 50mins Run Time (No Load)
  • Self-propelled drive
  • Low 17mm cutting height
  • Very powerful 80v brushless motor
  • Comfortable and easy to use
  • Stores easily
  • Sturdy steel deck with built in fan
  • 2 Year Warranty.
  • Larger upfront investment (but still good value)
  • Extra batteries can be expensive for this model.
  • Only has single speed self-propelled drive
