Introduction to Petrol Hedge Trimmers

Best Petrol Hedge Trimmer ReviewsMost of us do not have the pleasure of owning a hedgerow, but those that do, know the significance of keeping it pared. Hedge shaping makes your garden look in order, but to do it right, you need to know what you are doing.

A pair of hedge clippers are fine for small bushes, but for a hedgerow, you need to invest in a decent trimmer. There are many types of hedge trimmer to choose from, all with their own merits. Electric or petrol, trimmers need to be less hassle than using a pair of shears.

What Type of Hedge Trimmer Should I Choose?

Electric

An electric trimmer will have the advantage that it will keep going as long as you need it. With a cord, there is no need to refuel or recharge, and the machines tend to be lighter. Electric motors have a very good power to weight ratio, and the power is instant. The power cable is their Achilles heel, and even though there are redundancy measures, it still poses a risk. A cable is something that you will eventually cut through or trip over.

Cordless

Cordless trimmers are great for the accident-prone, that annoying cable is gone, replaced by a battery pack. These batteries have come a long way over the last decade. Lithium-ion is the standard, they last a reasonable amount of time, and they are quick to recharge. Yet, batteries do not last forever, and they are expensive to replace.

Hedge Trimmer ReviewsA battery adds weight to the unit, and with every amp hour, the trimmer will get heavier. If you want to approach the kind of power from a corded trimmer, you need a big battery that can be quite costly.

Petrol

For a large hedgerow or an ornate design that you want to make out of a garden bush, you will want to use a petrol hedge trimmer. They are fast to refuel, and the new models are quick to start. The power they provide for the cost is far superior to an electric trimmer. Their single biggest issue is the noise factor.

But even this is a lot less than it was a decade ago, thanks to restrictions set on the manufactures by regulators. Petrol hedge trimmers will keep running throughout the day, as long as you have enough fuel, and they have no power cable to cut through.

How Much Do I Need to Spend on a Hedge Trimmer?

As with all products, buying the cheapest of anything is a false economy. The parts of budget trimmers will break or cause so many issues, to make them near useless from the beginning. That is not to say you cannot find great deals, and there are many great brands that offer reliable and well-built entry-level trimmer for a good price.

It is possible to find a brand-new electric hedge trimmer for under £30, but the lifespan will be questionable. The motor size on the specifications, along with the length of the blade, may look fine. However, the thickness and quality of the material are so poor that it flexes under its own weight. A hedge trimmer is for light pruning, and occasionally you will get to a thicker branch that will present a challenge to a low-end trimmer.

Look at my reviews and see what issues there are with each model. Do the blades last? Does the bodywork crack after a small fall to the floor? A cordless hedge trimmer will cost 2 times as much as an electric trimmer with the same power rating, and to get something dependable will cost even more. A petrol hedge trimmer will cost around the same as a battery model, with the power of a corded trimmer. And if you want something robust, prices are above £150.

Best Hedge Trimmers: What Features Should I Look Out For?

Brands are a good starting point for any tool, but each brand has a tool that they make better than another does. Features present on one model may not be on the design from another brand. And then there are the patents that prevent other designers from using a good safety idea.

  • The spacing between the teeth is proportional to the power of the trimmer. A small motor cannot get through a thick stem, so you need to consider what it is you need to cut. With larger spacing comes a larger motor, stronger teeth, and increased cost. You may also want to compare the thickness of the teeth on different trimmers.
  • Longer blades are great for performing perfect flat trims on hedgerows. But the longer the blade, the heavier and more unwieldy it becomes. For intricate work, a shorter and light blade is far better and easier to manage.
  • The handle is the control of the trimmer, and to give you the greatest control, a wraparound handle lets you stay in control while manoeuvring. This means it needs to fit well with the length of your fingers and grip. The handle needs to be strong and take a little abuse as you move around, and occasionally dump it on the floor.
  • A vital safety feature that all trimmers have, but some are better than others. The oscillating teeth can whip back chunks of wood and sharp sticks. These teeth are not as sharp as they are powerful and would have no problem slicing a finger off. The guard puts a bit of distance between your fingers and the teeth.

What Size Hedge Trimmer Do I Need?

Small

For a light bit of pruning, a small hedge trimmer is more than enough. If the intention is to clip away the scruffy areas of the hedge, then tidy up the thick branches with a saw. Blade lengths of under 50 centimetres is a comfortable length that will get the job done, and there are many cordless trimmers that will suffice.

Large

Giant hedges need a trimmer that is safe and also cuts as much foliage in one pass as possible. Ladders are an idea, but not the best idea, and balancing while holding a reciprocating blade is an exciting prospect. Most people that have tall hedgerow buy a trimmer on poles that let you use them while standing on solid ground. These types of trimmers come in both electric and petrol.

Many

If you have a lot to cut, petrol or corded trimmers are the only two realistic options. And even the electric is topped by a petrol trimmers flexibility. With a petrol trimmer, you can whisk around the hedge, and duck from one side to the other without having to relay a cable. For a lot of trimming, you want to get it done fast, so a long blade of 70 centimetres and a powerful motor are preferable.

P1 Petrol Hedge Trimmer 26cc 2-Stroke P2600HT Review

No products found.

Summary

This P1 P2600HT Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a lightweight trimmer for the purpose of trimming and relining hedgerows. The engine is small to keep the weight down and 2-stroke to keep it simple and easy to support. The blade has a respectable 55 centimetre (22-inch) reach and can cut branches of up to 22mm.

The grip and handle are designed to let you rotate the machine without compromising your grip, and still giving you a lot of control. Hyundai has proved itself as a reliable manufacturer of power tools, and this trimmer is no exception.

Main Features

  • 2-Stroke, 26cc, 2800rpm, Recoil Start
  • 0.6 L
  • Double reciprocating, 55cm (22in)
  • Anti-Vibration
  • Handle
  • 6.2kg

Engine

The engine on this P1 P2600HT Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a 26cc 2-stroke from Hyundai’s own line; it uses a pull cord for quick a reliable start. The engine uses a 25:1 fuel to oil mix, which needs to be made on-site by the user, in the bottle provided. With this engine, there is no need to run it at top speed; the best torque comes in the mid-range.

This also saves fuel, making it an efficient engine to run. High efficiency means that you do not need such a large fuel tank. The engine can do the same amount of work as a much heavier engine. The good power to weight ratio makes it light enough to use all day.

No products found.

Blade

  • The double reciprocating blade is a respectable 55 centimetres, or 22 inches long. A good length for shrubs, bushes, and short hedgerows.
  • The blade will cut through branched up to 22mm thick. And powered by a 26cc engine, the blades should manage this thickness with ease.
  • Towards the base of the blade, there is a covered area, as an extra level of protection from wider objects finding their way to the blades.

P1 P2600HT Petrol Hedge Trimmer Practicalities

There are two handles, the front steadying handle, and the throttle control handle. The front handle is a good size, U-shaped, for a controlled grip when having to hold the trimmer at different angles.

The control handle will rotate 90-degrees in either direction so that you can get to the best trimming angle. There is a flip switch on the side of the rear handle to unlock it and allow for rotation, which should then be re-locked before going ahead and cutting. The handle houses the throttle and throttle lock, as well as the on-off switch for the engine.

Model Comparison

Other than being the least expensive of my top 5 trimmers, the P1 P2600HT Petrol Hedge Trimmer has the largest fuel capacity.  The P1 P2600HT Petrol Hedge Trimmer has the largest blade guard of the 5 models, and for some, this may be a welcome safety add-on feature. There is no underestimating of this decent label, it is a good model.

Safety Features

No products found.

In front of the engine, there is a steadying handle and a guard. This guard on the P1 P2600HT Petrol Hedge Trimmer is secured to the base of the blade and extends beyond the size of the handle. It is also set at an angle so that any debris that get kicked back hit the plate and bounce down, rather than up and into your face.

There is a lockable throttle on the rear handle with a quick release. The handle has a small kill switch so that you can turn the engine off with your thumb, keeping both your hands on the grips. And just under the engine block, there is a cap for the blade grease, that will keep it moving freely through sticky leaves.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Manoeuvrable
  • Safety Features
  • Extra Tool Kit
Cons
  • Shorter Blade
  • 25:1 2-Stroke is Less Efficient

Conclusion

The P1 P2600HT Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a good trimmer; it is light and well built. The obvious weak point is going to be the swivel handle. That may be remedied by treating the unit with a bit of respect. After hours of using the machine and twisting the handle, leaves and dust may start to clog up the bearing. And after many hours of use, the tendency is to start dropping the trimmer to the floor.

No products found.

The safety feature is good, and there is plenty of protection from flying debris and flick backs. The protection cover at the front also gives fingers plenty of protection from the reciprocating blades. In the case of accidentally dropping the machine, the guard should give you some decent protection.

Another small issue is the high level of oil that you need to mix to make the 2-stroke. This may end up getting a little smoky after a few months of use, even though it will make the engine last longer. Hyundai is a good brand, and it is unlikely that you will ever have a problem starting it with the pull cord.

Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer Review

Summary

Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer Review

The key features of this Makita EH7500W 22cc Hedge Trimmer are that it is small, lightweight, and has a good engine. Makita is a long-respected brand, and they deserve their reputation for one of the best tool makers on the market. The trimmer is efficient, easy to move about, and versatile. The EH7500 has a long blade and a respectable cutting thickness.

Where there is a way to cut down on weight, Makita has done so. This is a machine to do the job fast and with no drama. And you know with Makita that you will not be spending hours trying to get it started in the morning.

Main Features

  • 2-Stroke, 22cc, 4390 rpm
  • 0.4 L
  • Double Reciprocating, 75cm (29.5in)
  • Anti-Vibration
  • Rotatable Handle, Fixed U-Shaped Front Rail
  • 5.2kg
  • 32x138x24cm

Engine

The Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer is also a 2-stroke, a little smaller at 22cc, and runs at twice the speed of similar engines (4390 rpm). This will mean that the faster reciprocations will slice through light leaves a lot faster. The trimmer may have trouble getting through thick branches.

This engine runs rich for a 2-stroke, using a mix of 50:1 fuel to oil mix. This makes for a cleaner run, but it can lessen a 2-strokes lifespan as it runs hotter. Makita makes the very best garden tools, so you have to assume that they know what they are doing.

Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer Review

This Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer is an environment-conscious trimmer that follows the latest emission laws. Because of the more efficient engine, the fuel tank is a little smaller. A smaller tank of 0.4 L, a smaller engine, and better mechanics contribute to shaving off a kilo in weight.

Blade

The blade is where the real difference is made, and the small tolerances between each blade make for a fine cut. The blade on this Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer is nickel plated to reduce the wear from abrasion and help the blade last longer than a regular steel blade.

  • 75 centimetre blade length makes it excellent for single passes and quick work. It will also help you to cut taller hedges without the need for a ladder.
  • Teeth are spaced to accept and cut branches up to 2.15 cm in thickness. And if Makita says so, you know that is what it will do.
  • For such a long blade, the protection is a little limited, but there is a small guard. The teeth also have an extra safety guard that covers them from halfway to the base.

Practicalities

The motor is mounted on four floating points inside the housing of the trimmer. The four dampening springs soak up shaking from the engine to reduce fatigue on the user’s grip on the front and rear handles.

Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer Review

The rear handle has 5-presets that it can rotate to, depending on the angle that you want to hold the trimmer at. These are 0, 45 and 90 degrees in either a left or right direction. A click of the thumb switch and the handle will smoothly rotate to the next locking position. Makita has placed the switch on both sides of the handle for left and right-handed users.

The user should check the grease levels for the blades between each use, but the Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer is rated for 50 hours of cutting before it needs topping up.

Model Comparison

Makita has used a smaller engine, kept the power, and kept the weight down. They have done an incredible job, and they have even taken into consideration people that favour different hands. There is no protection on this Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer for the fuel tank to save it from being cracked on a hard surface. But they did think about a translucent blade guard so that you can see right to the bottom of the blade without having to get your face too close.

Safety Features

Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer Review

The control handle has a kill switch mounted on top so that you can cut off the engine with a thumb. And to keep the engine running at speed, there is a throttle lock, also mounted for the thumb to activate. This needs to be depressed before the throttle will move.

The front of the Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer has a small guard, it is a little larger than the width of the blades, so not a lot of protection there. Makita did make it with a transparent screen so that you can see what you are cutting closer to the neck.

Accessories

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Long Blade
  • Low Emission
  • Reputable and Quality Brand
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Small Protection Guard
  • Smaller Engine

Conclusion

This is a good label, and it is unlikely that you will ever have heard someone saying something bad about their tools. This level of excellence comes at a premium, and the Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer is one of the more costly choices. The blades are good, sharp, and they will last far longer than those of the opposition. The engine is efficient and robust, and you know that you will never have any bother starting it.

The only slight issue with this model is the safety aspects, and it seems they could have made more effort in making a better safety guard. This can always be overcome by ensuring you are wearing the appropriate safety ware. The Makita EH7500W Hedge Trimmer will make short work of a tall hedge. And you know that a Makita engine and blade are made at the highest of standards.

McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Summary

McCulloch is better known for its excellent reputation with chainsaws. They have a long history of manufacturing machines to cut foliage, and they have extended this experience to this hedge trimmer. The McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer also has smaller engine of 22cc and a shorter blade of 56 centimetres.

The McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a nice package for the less experienced user, and this is a barebones machine which does not waste time on flashy extras. Comfort and reliability are McCulloch’s prime design concerns, and it shows.

Main Features

  • 2-Stroke, 22cc, 2365 rpm
  • 0.5 L
  • Double Reciprocating, 56cm (22-in)
  • Anti-Vibration
  • Rotatable Handle, Fixed U-Shaped Front Rail
  • 5.2kg
  • 26x115x22cm

Engine

The engine on this McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer uses a 50:1 fuel to oil ratio, so it is more friendly to the environment and will smoke less. High ratio mixes more often means the engines are easier to start and less prone to getting clogged up with oil residue.

The first impression is that 22cc one on the small side for a trimmer engine. But this is an efficient machine and the shorter blade length needs less power. A smaller engine means less weight and a smaller fuel tank, so this is an easy machine to move about and hold over your head.

Blade

The blade on the McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a standard dual-cutting blade made from steel. The long reach of the trimmer will make it more suitable for trimming bushes. it will also be good for shaping trees, as well as overcutting and levelling long hedgerows.

  • The blade length is much shorter than the other models at 56cm. This is good for weight and price, but it does mean that you will have to do more passes.
  • The teeth are rated to cut 22mm thick branches; this is a standard capability for a mid-range trimmer.
  • There is a very small shrapnel guard under the front handrail, that would not completely protect the user. It is there more to stop branches getting stuck in the handle.
McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Practicalities

The air-filter box is in a convenient place on this McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer, which is easy to open, for when you want to wash it. And if you want to get the most from the motor, cleaning the filter is something that you may want to do after 10 hours of engine running time.

The pull cord starter may seem weak for some, McCulloch has reduced the resistance by 40%. This is good in the sense that you do not need to pull as hard to start the engine, but the lack of effort that you need to put in may take some getting used to.

To hold the unit at different angles, the control handle rotates, so that you can keep your trimming straight. And the front handle is U-shaped to allow you to vary your grip.

Model Comparison

McCulloch looks the part; it looks as if it will last a thousand years. Little differences, like the clear rubber cover over the kill switch, makes you think longevity. The McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a small thing, simple and cheap to implement, but none of the other manufacturers do it.

The delicate parts of the engine and tank are also protected by a heat vented casing, that may add a little weight, but it is a great idea.

Safety Features

The front of the McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer has a small guard that would do little to protect you from sharp flying objects. The guard is more of a guide for keeping the leaves in the line of the blade. As with any of these trimmers, if you want to be safe, buy safety gear. Invest in a decent pair of safety goggles at the time of buying.

McCulloch may have reduced the size of the guard for weight, but it will not do much. The throttle can only be activated by squeezing the top trigger with your thumb. You can twist the control handle to prune the side of a hedgerow. To do this, you need to depress a button on the left side of the unit. Fine if you are right-handed.

A nice touch on this McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer is the sealing of the engine power switch inside a small silicone cover, to stop dust and debris clogging it up. And you have to wonder why more machines do not do the same thing.

McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Conclusion

You could never say that McCulloch makes a bad product, it is a shame that they decided to not add at the very least a tool kit to the deal. The McCulloch HT 5622 Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a fine machine if you are looking for something smaller and easier to manage, but the shorter blade length will make everything take longer. The short blade also makes it more difficult to keep your lines straight, so this trimmer belongs in the shaping and short hedge line category.

Hyundai HYT2622-3 Review – Petrol Hedge Trimmer Cutter

Summary

Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

The Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer, another great value trimmer from Hyundai, this time with a larger motor and more power. The large motor on this Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer adds to the weight, but the longer blade gives it more functionality. For some reason, Hyundai went with a small tank on this model.

Main Features

  • 2-Stroke, 26cc, 10500rpm, Muffler
  • 0.35L
  • Double Reciprocating, 75cm (29.5in)
  • Anti-Vibration
  • Rotatable Handle, Fixed U-Shaped Front Rail
  • 6.8kg
  • 25x133x21cm

Engine

The engine on this Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a 2-stroke, 26cc power unit that abides by the EU sound and air pollution laws. The 2-stroke runs on a 40:1 fuel/oil mix, which is still a low oil content. The motor runs the blades through a geared transmission, which helps to increase cutting pressure at the blades.

The maximum speed of the engine is very high for a trimmer, accelerating to 10500 rpm, so you should be able to get through a hedge at a decent rate. This large engine does have a detrimental effect on its mass, and this comes in at 6kg (dry weight). You will not want to hold this above your head for too long.

Blade

The Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer uses the standard dual-cutting blade to help you keep the line on your cutting. At the end of the blade is a rounded mount to help the long blade glide over the end branches with ease.

  • The blade is 75cm long with a 66cm usable length. The guide at the far end reduces the actual length.
  • This trimmer is rated to cut a 28mm branch, though if you have anything thicker than this to cut, you would be better off using a saw or a pair of shears.
  • This has a shrapnel guard, but again it is not huge, and its purpose is more to control the direction of branches. Any user should use safety goggles.
Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Practicalities

The main control handle on the Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer will rotate 90 degrees, left or right. So that you can hold the trimmer at the best angle, the front handle is a U-shaped bar. Both handles would accommodate a left-handed person. Except for the power switch, which only works for a right-handed person, lefties would need to change hands.

The fuel tank is mounted under the engine with a high spout that jets out the side to make refuelling quick and safe. The position of the opaque tank makes it easy to see how much fuel you have left. The air filter is also easy to open and take out for cleaning on this Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer.

Model Comparison

The Hyundai is well made, but a little less so than the Einhell. In the end, both motor technologies are very similar, and the big difference is in the blades. Einhell, Makita, and McCulloch all have superior blades, and this is the part that matters more than engine power.

Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Safety Features

To start the engine on this Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer, you need to lock the throttle open. And to accelerate the engine, you need to keep your thumb pressed on the safety trigger. The kill switch is the most important part, and for some reason, it is set out of the way. And as previously pointed out, it would be impossible for a left-handed person to use it in a hurry.

The front guard is not the smallest we have seen in a trimmer, but it is close. A small guard does have the benefit of not obstructing your view of what you are cutting. But you have to wonder why they moved from a sensible larger guard to what all the trimmer manufacturers use now.

Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Conclusion

The Hyundai HYT2622-3 Petrol Hedge Trimmer is larger than the other models, and the weight is something that will fast become clear. The larger engine size offers the promise of getting the job done faster, so even if it is heavier, you will not be holding it up for long.

Also, the fast reciprocation speed gives the blade the extra momentum they need to get through thicker branches. A good machine for a great price, the control handle looks as if it could have been made a little stronger for a 6.8kg machine.

Einhell GE-PH 2555A Review 2-Stroke 25 cc Petrol Hedge Trimmer

Einhell GE-PH 2555A 2-Stroke 25 cc Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Summary

Einhell is one of the favourite economy brands in the tool sector. Their products are of a fair price, and they last a long time. And whatever it is they do to their blades, they seem to stay sharper for longer than most other brands.

This Einhell GE-PH 2555A Petrol Hedge Trimmer has a good-sized engine, good blade length, and plenty of power to get through thick branches. It has the same features as many other petrol hedge trimmers, including a rotatable handle and an anti-vibrational engine mounting.

Main Features

  • 2-Stroke, 25cc, 1900 rpm
  • 0.33L
  • Double Reciprocating, 61cm (24in)
  • Anti-Vibration
  • Rotatable Handle, Fixed U-Shaped Front Rail
  • 5.45kg
  • 24x112x22cm

Engine

A 1.15 horsepower engine is impressive in trimmer of this size, 24.5cc. And they have done this while keeping it in a medium-low price range. It has affected the weight, though the Einhell GE-PH 2555A Petrol Hedge Trimmer is lighter than many petrol hedge trimmers of similar engine size.

The fuel tank on this Einhell GE-PH 2555A Petrol Hedge Trimmer is set under the engine, which has a large petrol filler opening leading into it from the right of the engine. There is also a primer pump to get the engine ready for a quick start after a period of inactivity.

Blade

Einhell prides themselves on making a sharp blade for their cutting tools, and the claim to use lasers to cut the metal for the blade. After this, they use diamonds to grind the blades, to get them sharp and efficient for clean cutting.

  • The 55 centimetre useable blade length makes it excellent for single passes and quick work.
  • Teeth are spaced to accept and cut branches up to 1.9cm in thickness. This is the least cutting capability of the trimmer in my selected best trimmers (by 0.3cm+), but it depends if you intend to use it for thick branches.
  • There is a small hand guard in front of the rail, but again it is more to stop stray branches getting stuck in the handle.

Practicalities

The control handle on the Einhell GE-PH 2555A Petrol Hedge Trimmer is rotatable by 90 degrees in either direction to help with control and vertical cutting. The engine is mounted on anti-vibration brackets to reduce fatigue on the user’s hands. The end of the blade it straight an active to the end, so there is some possibility of grazing the end of the blade along a wall.

Model Comparison

This Einhell GE-PH 2555A Petrol Hedge Trimmer is a powerful trimmer for a good price, and the closest comparison is the 26cc Hyundai in terms of power and cost. Neither model has many extras, and Makita would be the brand that sits above both of them.

Safety Features

The front protection guard is larger than some of the other models, but not by much. The guard is minimal, to stop gloves getting caught at the beginning of the blades. The kill switch is mounted at the top of the control handle and will work for either left or right-handed individuals.

Cons
  • Smaller Guard size

Conclusion

Einhell GE-PH 2555A 2-Stroke 25 cc Petrol Hedge Trimmer Review

Overall, Einhell is hard to fault; they make great tools at very reasonable prices. As with a lot of the petrol hedge trimmers, safety does not seem to be the main concern. But then it is hard to make a power tool safe when an unprotected reciprocating blade is involved.

If you want to get the most for your money, the Einhell GE-PH 2555A Petrol Hedge Trimmer is going to be the best bet. The only other issue is the weight; that comes with using a larger motor, so this is a good unit for large long hedges. If you want to do some occasional trimming, a smaller, shorter unit is preferable.
