Summary
The EGO ST1511E Cordless Line Trimmer has a powerful 56V Arc Lithium battery, has variable speed, soft start and the line is automatically loaded in under 10 seconds using EGO Powerload™ feature. It has an auxiliary quick to adjust handle, large 38cm cutting width and provides up to 30 minutes of run time with the 2.5Ah battery.
It was great to get my hands on this EGO trimmer, new to the market in 2019. I was particularly interested in the performance of this trimmer and whether or not it is a real contender as a replacement for petrol line trimmers. I was also interested how well EGO’s line feed technology (Powerload™ feature) works, as you know loading a line trimmer can be very frustrating and time consuming.
EGO has a reputation for building strong, robust and powerful garden tools, and this Line Trimmer was no exception. The moment I took it out of the box, I could see and feel that the built quality was made to last. In my review below we will take a look at all the features and functions of this Line Trimmer, the good and perhaps not so good, so you know exactly what you are getting and who this Line Trimmer is best suited for.

Power and Performance
No products found. This EGO ST1511E Cordless Line Trimmer has market leading 56V Lithium-Ion battery technology and combined with the 2.5Ah battery and the brushles motor, delivered some incredible power as you can see from my video below. I have tested many other cordless trimmers, and many of them are simply not up to the job of dealing with anything but the grass edging in your garden that has been missed by your mower. This Line Trimmer from EGO is in a different class and is designed to deal with much tougher conditions, I can honestly say that it didn’t disappoint. At no point did I feel that the line trimmer was under-powered or was struggling, even in the most challenging conditions as you can see from my video below.
This kit is supplied with the 2.5Ah battery and a standard charger that will deliver around 30 minutes of run time. The battery will charge in an impressive 50 minutes and only 30 minutes with the rapid charger. You do have the option to purchase additional batteries including 5.0Ah and 7.5Ah. The 5.0Ah battery will increase your run time to 60 minutes, the 7.5Ah battery will increase your run time to 90 minutes.
Please note that the 5.0Ah battery and 7.5Ah battery will increase the weight of the line trimmer significantly, and therefore you may want to consider purchasing EGO’s battery back pack.
Practicalities
Although this line trimmer is incredibly powerful and is robust and effective even in the toughest conditions, it may not be for everyone. If you are simply looking for a line trimmer that you can use in your garden to tidy up a few edges after mowing, then there are lighter, less powerful and more cost effective cordless options. If however, you are looking for a line trimmer to replace a petrol trimmer and need something to deal with challenging conditions then this line trimmer from EGO has all the practicalities you would need.
Compared to a standard petrol line trimmer, this EGO is lighter, performs just as well and has all the benefits of not having an engine to maintain and service.
One thing also to consider is the length of this line trimmer – 180cm. The EGO does not fold at the central point like some other EGO line trimmers, so storage and transportation will need to be taken into account.
The batteries are exchangeable with other EGO power tools with a wide range of other batteries available.

One of the things that I really like about the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 is that it is so lightweight. You won’t need a harness or a strong arm to carry the tool around since it weighs just 2.6kg!
What’s more, Bosch has designed this trimmer to be incredibly user friendly and the ergonomic design means that there won’t be any pressure or strain on your back. The handle can be adjusted between 120cm and 140cm allowing you to stand upright when working. What’s more, the v-shaped handle allows for a more natural position when cutting so you won’t feel sore or achy when the job is done.
Bosch have supplied an edging wheel to assist whit cutting the edges. To be honest, the trimmer is so lightweight that you may find this gets in the way as opposed to helping.
As with many other Bosch tools, the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 is made from high quality materials and offers decent durability.
Trimmer Head
The Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 features a 26cm trimmer head which is more than sufficient for most domestic garden chores. But what really caught my attention was how versatile the trimmer head is. It features a tilt mechanism which is operated with a foot pedal so that you can adjust the angle of the head to get underneath and around obstacles.
This saves a lot of time and effort compared to trimmers whose heads need to be manually adjusted or, in fact, cannot be adjusted at all.
Whilst the is no dedicated wire plant guard, the wheel does offer some protection although, not completely around the head of the trimmer.

After great success with the ST20, Gtech has recently updated this popular grass trimmer. The Gtech GT3.0 cordless grass trimmer is the result. Building on the original success, they have made a few improvements to make it even more effective and versatile.

As this is effectively an upgrade, Gtech listened to what users had to say to make an already good cordless trimmer even better. One of the main complaints of the earlier versions was wrist and back strain and Gtech added the handle to prevent or at the very least reduce this. The handle is adjustable so you can find the ideal position for your needs.
The plastic blade is also something most users appreciate. The blade is effective and easy to change. The only complaint was that it does not last all that long. Gtech has overcome that issue by including 20 blades with every new machine. Replacement blades are easy to come by and cost next to nothing.
Weight
The weight of the Gtech GT3.0 is a mere 1.85 kg making it light and easy to move. This will reduce fatigue and make the job easier to do. It is ideal for those not quite up to lugging a large heavy trimmer around.
Power
The Gtech GT3.0 grass trimmer is 18V so it is effective for most conditions.
Charge Time
The charge time is roughly 4 hours and has an 18V Lithium-ion battery. Another benefit is that this battery is interchangeable with the Gtech Hedge Trimmer. This gives you more flexibility and a potential cost saving.
A charge should give you roughly 30 minutes of run time.
String Type
The Gtech GT3.0 features a fixed plastic grass trimmer blade. These are easy to clip on and off and so replacement is quick and painless.
Replacement blades are practically free and the cost to order an additional pack of 50 is negligible. You basically just need to cover the postage and you will have more than enough blades.
