The Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 has a dual line cutting system for a better and more efficient cut. It has a semi-automatic line feed method of feeding additional line when the trimmer is started.
I found this to work very well on this Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 with no jams or other issues feeding the line, this allowed me to focus on what I was doing and not waste time messing around when the line breaks. Having two lines enabled me to cut the more demanding terrain with less passes, this not only saves time but also prolongs the battery life.
Understanding trimmer Feeds
- Automatic Feed – More line is fed out automatically each time the trimmer is started – this is my preferred method of line feed.
- Bump Feed – You are required to bump the base of the trimmer on the ground to push the nylon cord out. This method can work well depending on the quality of the trimmer.
- Manual Feed – This is my least preferred method as you have to manually pull the line out; this is frustrating and time consuming.

The Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 does have the ability to swivel the head to allow it to become an edge trimmer. This is done very simply by pressing a button half way up the trimmer and locking into place. The head diameter is 30 cm and is designed for medium to larger lawns.
I have tested many trimmers where the head is swivelled lower down requiring clips and screws to be removed. This is not the case with this Bosch trimmer, the positioning of the swivel point is perfect so you don’t even need to bend down or crawl around on the floor to make the adjustment – nice one Bosch!
Other trimmers that have the same higher swivel position tend to develop a weak point on the pole and movement between the handle and trimmer head can be felt when in use. Again, this is not the case with the Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36, once it’s locked back into place it feels firm and solid.
Weight and Balance
The Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 weighs 4.1 kg, this is normal for a cordless trimmer of this size. What makes this Bosch stand out from its competitors is the adjustable handle. Why is this so good? Well you can adjust the central handle up and down and also the angle so it is perfectly balanced between the handle/battery and the cutting head, this takes the strain away from lifting the trimmer, making it feel more comfortable and lighter.
It also benefits from having rubber grip handles, making it feel more comfortable and less likely to cause blisters when used for longer periods.
All in all this is one of the best trimmers I have used in terms of quality, comfort and ease of use.
Power & Battery
The Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 uses a powerful 36V/2.6Ah battery and motor. This combined with the Syneon chip ensured that this trimmer had no problems cutting longer/thicker grass whilst being tested.
The battery charges in around 70 minutes; this provided me with around 30 minutes of cut time.
You may be wondering if this trimmer is just for small lawns? No, not really, it will quite easily deal with larger lawns too. Yes, you may have to have a spare battery to hand, but remember the Bosch batteries are Power Share meaning they are interchangeable with other Bosch tools. Also, being cordless you are not concerned with long extension cables you will need for electric trimmers in larger gardens.
I believe this trimmer is suited to both small and larger lawns and everything in between.

As with most trimmers there are no built in additional safety features.
Trimmers are safe to work with, however as there are spinning parts you will need to take your own safety precautions.
Always wear safety glasses as debris can fly up from the cutting head. Also, it’s important to wear suitable footwear, gloves and long trousers for obvious reasons.
As you will see from my video, the Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 performs very well in the toughest conditions and the fact that is cordless makes it so easy and convenient to use. If you have an allotment where there is no power source and grass is left longer between cuts then this will be the ideal companion for getting the lawn or edging under control again.
The dual automatic line feed and the Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 power was also fine cutting taller, thicker grass and the motor never seemed to be under any strain. Remember this Bosch has the Syneon chip that adjusts the power according to the terrain, this combined with the powerful 36V/2.6Ah battery makes this trimmer perfect for tougher conditions.

The AdvancedGrassCut 36 is not the cheapest trimmer available on the market, especially if you are needing to purchase a battery and charger, however you get what you pay for. This trimmer is well built and has features that will make cutting your grass easier and will not let you down i.e. the adjustable handle, the Syneon chip that adjust the power according to the terrain, the build quality and the Bosch 3 year warranty.
