Summary
Bosch is often associated with high-quality and well-made tools and the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 is no exception. If you’re in the market for a reliable and easy to use trimmer then look no further; this one has some seriously impressive features and is designed for ultimate user comfort. If trimming the garden has felt like a task in the past, it won’t feel like that anymore.
The Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 runs on an 18v 2.5Ah lithium-ion battery with a Syneon chip (I’ll explain more about this later on) and offers a flexible and versatile performance. This makes it ideal for everyday use and for people who don’t want something overly complicated, but that still does the job well.
In my Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 review, I’ll be giving you an in-depth rundown of the features and telling you what you can expect when purchasing this trimmer.
Key Features
- 18v battery
- Flexible trimmer head
- Adjustable handle
- Auto line feed
- Powershare batteries
- 26cm cutting width
- Lightweight
Power
As I have already mentioned, the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 runs on an 18v battery. This is pretty standard for a tool like this and the great news is that the battery can be power shared across the Bosch 18v range. However, if you were looking for something a little more powerful then the AdvancedGrassCut might be more up your street. I tested this trimmer out and found it to be an excellent alternative to a petrol tool.
Back to the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 and we see that it benefits from a Syneon chip. Now, if you’re wondering what that means for you, the user, you’ll get the advantage of every last drop of power being used up before the battery needs charging again, which is great news.
You can purchase this as a bare tool, if you already have a selection of compatible batteries, or it is possible to buy the battery and charger alongside the trimmer. Just make sure that you select the correct option as the last thing you want is to receive your trimmer only to find out that you can’t power it. The UniversalGrassCut 18 comes without a battery, while the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 comes with a 2.5Ah battery. There is also a UniversalGrassCut 18-260 that features a 2.0Ah battery, so you certainly are spoiled for choice!

Performance
The Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 offers an effortless way to prune your garden and has a range of features that ensure an impressive performance time and time again. It’ll give a clean cut and offers excellent versatility. One of the things I like most about the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 is that the build quality lives up to Bosch’s usual high standards when compared to other brands.
Practicalities
One of the things that I really like about the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 is that it is so lightweight. You won’t need a harness or a strong arm to carry the tool around since it weighs just 2.6kg!
What’s more, Bosch has designed this trimmer to be incredibly user friendly and the ergonomic design means that there won’t be any pressure or strain on your back. The handle can be adjusted between 120cm and 140cm allowing you to stand upright when working. What’s more, the v-shaped handle allows for a more natural position when cutting, so you won’t feel sore or achy when the job is done.
Bosch have supplied an edging wheel to assist with cutting the edges. To be honest, the trimmer is so lightweight that you may find this gets in the way, making it somewhat redundant, as opposed to helping.
As with many other Bosch tools, the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 is made from high quality materials and offers decent durability.
Line Feed
For convenience and ease of use, automatic line feed is a must. Fortunately this is one of the main selling points of the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 which comes with the aptly named Intellifeed system.
There will be no more fiddling about with the line, simply let the tool do the work for you. These systems rely on an internal component that senses when the line is running short and will dispense a new amount as needed. You won’t even need to stop working!
Trimmer Head
The Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18-26 features a 26cm trimmer head, which is more than sufficient for most domestic garden chores. But what really caught my attention was how versatile the trimmer head is. It features a tilt mechanism which is operated with a foot pedal, so that you can adjust the angle of the head to get underneath and around obstacles.
This saves a lot of time and effort compared to trimmers whose heads need to be manually adjusted or, in fact, cannot be adjusted at all.
Whilst there is no dedicated wire plant guard, the wheel does offer some protection although, not completely around the head of the trimmer.
String Type
The UniversalGrassCut 18-26 cordless trimmer uses standard nylon 1.6 mm trimmer string.
Edge Trimming
It can easily be adjusted by 180-degree to operate as an effective edge trimmer. The edging wheel also helps to get a straight edge and take the weight of the trimmer. I think some users may remove the wheel as it can get in the way whilst edging.
