Blades
When you’re using a manual lawn mower, it’s vital that the blades are sharp and durable. Since they’re not powered, they need that edge to make sure they deliver a neat cut.
So, I was very happy to see that the blades on the Webb WEH12R are made from hardened alloy steel that’s incredibly robust.
The Webb WEH12R includes a chain drive so the movement of the blade is incredibly smooth. If you’ve ever used a manual lawn mower and felt it to be extremely hard work, that will be a thing of the past with this one.
The cylinder features five blades and the performance is very impressive. The blades deliver a very neat and even cut and many people have reported that they do just as good a job on lawns that aren’t 100% flat. That’s a real plus point since a lot of manual lawn mowers are really only designed for completely level lawns.
That said, the Webb WEH12R still isn’t going to be suitable for very bumpy terrain.
Height Adjustment
One of the things I really liked about the Webb WEH12R was how easy it was to adjust the cutting height.
There are several settings between 13 mm and 23.5 mm so you’ve got a versatile choice in how you cut your lawn.
There are two knobs at either side of the deck and these can be used to quickly and easily adjust the cutting height; no tools required. If you’re keen to get the job done as fast as possible then it’s these little details that make all the difference.
Cutting Diameter
The Webb WEH12R is designed for smaller lawns and features a 30 cm cutting width. Anything up to around 250m² would be the perfect fit for this model.
However, if you have a larger lawn and are still keen to use an eco-friendly manual lawn mower then Webb does have a 46 cm model which would be ideal for a bigger garden.
Grass Box Capacity
Having a smaller cutting width, you wouldn’t expect the Webb WEH12R to come with a massive grass catcher. In fact, the grass catcher can hold up to 18 litres which I would say is pretty standard for a lawn mower like this.
While it’s not massive, the grass box does perform exceptionally well. Having read several user testimonies, I noticed that the efficiency of the grass box is excellent and very few grass clippings spill out.
However, being made from fabric fitted around a plastic frame, the grass box isn’t the most stable thing in the world. I’ve come across a lot of comments talking about how flimsy it is and that during an accidental collision, it’s not uncommon for the frame to pop out. I also noticed a lot of people talking about how the grass box is quite fiddly to attach to the mower.
On the plus side, that collapsible design means that storing the grass box is a breeze. Just fold it flat and slot it into the shed; no need to find additional space.
If you don’t want to use the grass catcher then you don’t have to. The Webb WEH12R is designed to work with or without it. At times where you want to mulch your grass clippings (which is hugely beneficial to the health of your lawn) you can simply remove it.
Roller
One of the great things about the Webb WEH12R is that it is fitted with a zinc-plated rear roller. This isn’t something you get on all lawn mowers but if you’re looking to create a striped lawn (or any other sort of lawn art), it’s an imperative feature.
What really caught my attention about this roller was its weight. It’s heavy enough to create very prominent stripes but not so heavy that it makes the lawn mower impossible to manoeuvre.

I would recommend the Webb WEH12R for anyone that’s looking for an easy and fast solution to lawn maintenance. There’s no need for any setup like adding fuel or charging batteries; you can simply take the Webb WEH12R out of the shed and whizz around the lawn in no time.
I think that this model would also suit any gardener that’s looking for a more eco-friendly approach to garden care. With no fumes and no energy consumption, it’s a win for the environment.
However, while the Webb WEH12R is one of the lighter manual lawn mowers on the market, you still have to use some physical strength and stamina to operate it.
