Summary

The Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X is an electric cordless self-propelled lawn mower powered by two 4.0Ah (2 x 24V) batteries designed to cut lawns up to 480m². It has a 46cm cutting blade, a 55 litre grass collection bag and has 7 cutting heights available that range from 25mm to 80mm. The mower comes with a three year manufacturer’s warranty.
Right away, you will notice that this Greenworks 46cm self-propelled mower is a significantly more powerful and effective cordless lawn mower than many of the other tools on the market. Greenworks has gone above and beyond in creating a piece of gardening equipment that is built for heavy duty work, without the need for petrol fumes. Let me introduce you to this Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X.
This is a self-propelled lawn mower that immediately caught my eye thanks to its diversity, practicalities and longer run times. Many modern cordless mowers aren’t able to offer anywhere near as many features as this one for such a reasonable price. OK, at more than £400, it is something of an investment, but when you think about what you’re getting, you realise that it is a worthwhile one.
For example, along with the variable speed drive, you are getting four in one mowing functions and a choice of seven cutting heights. If that doesn’t give you everything you need to cut your lawn in a versatile way, then I’m not sure what does. In addition, as I said you’ll be benefiting from an impressive run time and a lot of little features that make using this machine a breeze. But surely it can’t all be that good? In this Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X review, I’ll be taking a closer look at all of these features and highlighting any shortcomings.
Main Features
- Self-propelled drive
- Variable speed
- 46cm cutting width
- 7 cutting heights
- 4-in-1 mowing options
- 55-litre grass bag
- Folding handles
- Central height adjustment
- Comes with twin charger and power share 24v batteries
- 3-year warranty
Power System and Battery

If you are familiar with Greenworks then you may already be aware of their power share batteries which can be used in several of their tools. This is great if you have a lot of products from this brand and the good news is that this isn’t limited to garden tools, but can be used in many of the Greenworks DIY tools.
This mower comes with two 24v batteries which can be used in any of the other 24v tools or will be compatible with the 48v range. The batteries are powerful and come with a dual charger allowing you to charge both at the same time. They then sit in a dual battery port, built into the mower, and will give you as much as 46 minutes run time on a single charge. Just bare in mind that the quoted 46 minutes run time is very much dependant on the condition of the lawn and is for 2 x 4.0Ah batteries. If you follow a regular lawn maintenance schedule then yes 46 minutes is achievable in one go. If however your lawn is knee high then no, obviously the run time will be significantly reduced. But you won’t need to keep your eye on the time thanks to the handy LED charging lights that tell you how much juice is left.
What’s more, the Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X benefits from a self-propelled drive, which is great news for owners of larger gardens or gardens with steeper inclines; no more manually pushing a heavy mower around for hours. There is the option to adjust the speed too, which means you can set it to your own pace giving you a more comfortable and enjoyable mowing experience.
Yes there are self-propelled cordless mowers from other brands, such as Mountfield and EGO, but they do not have such an extensive range of other DIY and garden tools to power share the batteries with.
Performance

While you might not typically expect a cordless lawn mower to perform as well as its mighty petrol powered cousins, this is a tool that throws those expectations out of the window to some extent. If you have been toying with the idea of finding a cordless alternative to your petrol mower, then this is one of the very best choices.
With incredible power that closely rivals that of some smaller petrol mowers, the Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X lawn mower will make light work of larger gardens and even denser grass. What’s more, there are so many advantages to switching to cordless. For example, there are no fumes, emissions, noise levels are far lower and there are no ongoing maintenance costs. In addition to this, a cordless mower like this one, comes with a much easier starting function, so you can just get on with it.
Deck and Blade
For a cordless mower, an aluminium deck is a nice touch and that is precisely what you’re getting with this Greenworks 46cm mower. This material is lightweight and yet incredibly durable resulting in a mower that is up for even the most demanding challenge. Moreover, this is coupled with a steel blade which is sharp, reliable and robust.
Cutting Diameter
The Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X lawn mower comes with a 46cm cutting diameter, which is on the larger end of the scale, making this ideal for bigger lawns. It will easily cover an area up to 480m² when combined with the 2 x 4.0Ah batteries and if you’ve struggled to find a reliable cordless mower in the past for your big garden, you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised at what this one has to offer.
Handles

There is no doubt that this is a larger mower and is going to need some space in the shed or garage to store it. As you would expect the handles fold flat at both the mid point and lower deck point. Handles are padded for comfort and both the Operator Presence Control lever and gear engagement lever run the full length of the bars and are easily accessible.
Height Adjustment
One of the things that has really impressed me about the Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X is that it comes with an amazing seven cutting heights. While there are other mowers out there that offer this number of heights, it is the diversity that has caught my attention the most. Whether you want very short, well-maintained grass or need to cut it a little longer, the choices range between 25mm and 80mm, so there is something for every occasion.
What’s more, adjusting the cutting height doesn’t require any complex actions or special tools, you can simply switch between them using the central height adjustment lever.
Grass Collection Box

Greenworks have opted for an all cloth 55 litre grass collection bag on this mower, that is just about right for a mower of this size.
Whilst an all cloth collection bag is the best option for better air circulation and effective cutting collection, there is no grass box full indicator. All cloth collection bags also tend to allow more dust to leave the bag whilst mowing, practically when the lawn is very dry.
Having said that, the collection bag attaches and removes with no issues and there are no obstructions when emptying the cuttings.
Roller
As with most mowers that have a mulching function, this Greenworks 46cm mower does not have a rear roller.
Mulching
Having the option to mulch your lawn clippings can be something that is a deal breaker when looking at a lawn mower. Not only does the Greenworks GD24X2LM46SPK4X allow you to mulch, but it also comes with three other mowing methods for ultimate versatility. You can collect your clippings in the 55-litre grass collection bag or make use of the side and rear discharge chutes.
If you opt to use the mulching mode, your lawn will benefit from the returned clippings which are rich in nitrogen, an element that your lawn desperately needs to stay green, lush and healthy.

Safety Features

As with all cordless mowers, this one comes with the standard safety button that releases the Operator Presence Control lever. It is also supplied with a removable safety key next to the batteries. When this key is removed, the mower cannot be started.
Practicalities
Before I go into the practicalities of the mower, I must point out that it is a very heavy piece of equipment at more than 38kg. Now, don’t let this alarm you too much because this is common for self-propelled mowers like this. That powered drive will move the mower for you, so all you need to do is guide it. However, there is the consideration of getting it to and from the lawn, so the weight is worth bearing in mind.
That being said, you are getting a lawn mower that is incredibly easy to use. The handles on this Greenworks 46cm mower fold down, so that storing the mower is simple and the controls are within easy reach. What’s more, with such a large grass bag, if you choose cut and collect mode, you won’t need to keep stopping as often to empty the collection bag.
What really impressed me, however, was that the mower comes with a three-year warranty. While there is no doubt in my mind that this will be a reliable and robust piece of equipment, it is always nice to have that bit of backup.

Hello
Thanks for your site and your very professional videos – I’ve found them very helpful. One odd thing I’ve noticed though – in your review of the Greenworks 46cm GD24X2LM46SPK4X you state that it’s a is a heavier mower with a weight of 38 kg. But every site I’ve looked at, including Greenworks own, gives the weight as 27.5 kg. Most comparable mowers are about the 28/9 kg mark so I’m confused! I’m choosing between the Greenworks and the Hyundai HYM80Li460SP at 29.8 kg but leaning towards the Greenworks as it has variable speed. Some reviews of the Hyundai say they have found the unvariable speed of the Hyundai too fast and I’m a small older woman ….
Hi Judith
Many thanks for pointing this out, it should in fact say 28kg + 2kg for the batteries. So 30kg is the total weight for this mower.
Yes, the Hyundai can feel a little fast which will suit some, but it is nice to be able to adjust the speed to suit your own personal preference.
Good luck with you search and remember Black Friday starts this coming Thursday 21st November, so be sure to check out my page here to see if this is one of the mowers in the sales.
