Now, this globally known brand does offer several petrol shredders but I’ve been testing the Hyundai HYCH2800ES which is an electric model and I have to say, it’s an excellent tool.

If you’re used to petrol tools then switching to electric might come with the worry of decreased power. Of course, the Hyundai HYCH2800ES isn’t going to harbour the power of its petrol counterparts but it certainly gives them a run for their money. What’s more, for most domestic tasks, the 2800w electric motor gives you all the power you need.
I’ve seen reviews where people talk about running this machine for eight hours a day without any problems; it’s a real workhorse. In my own tests, you can see in my video review just how powerful and efficient the Hyundai HYCH2800ES really is.
Running at 60 rpm, the motor is not only effective at breaking down garden debris but it’s also super quiet. Compared to petrol models, this one isn’t going to disturb your neighbours which is essential if you’re working on a lengthy project.
I also noticed that the Hyundai HYCH2800ES comes with a long 10 metre power cable which means you won’t need to worry about finding an extension lead.

Shredding Capacity
There are two electric garden shredders from Hyundai; the 2400 watt version and this one. While I would suggest the smaller, less powerful model for day to day garden tasks, the Hyundai HYCH2800ES is ideal where you have a lot of foliage to clear.
It’ll easily handle a lot of shredding and is capable of breaking down branches up to 4.4 cm in diameter. It breaks them down into small pieces which can then be used around the garden as mulch or as a decorative material.
One of the things that really surprised me was how well the Hyundai HYCH2800ES coped with thicker branches. It broke them down with great ease and I had no issues with the device jamming.
Collection Bag
Owing to the fact that the Hyundai HYCH2800ES is designed for slightly more heavy duty use, it’s a nice touch that it comes with a generous 60 litre collection bag. This saves the chippings from collecting on the ground and getting all over the place. If you’re like me and prefer to keep things tidy as you work, this is an essential feature.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much the collection bag holds. You can work for a serious amount of time before you need to stop and empty it which means less downtime.
What’s more, the collection bag is super easy to detach with no fiddling so you can empty, reattach and get on with the job.
Practicalities
If there was one thing that I noticed when testing the Hyundai HYCH2800ES, it was that it’s an incredibly user friendly piece of equipment. It is so simple to set up and use so even if you’re totally new to using garden shredders, there’s no need to worry.
For starters, you’ll notice that this is an extremely lightweight shredder, weighing around 20kg. That may sound quite a lot but compare it to some of the petrol models and you’ll see just what I mean. Plus, it’s fitted with wheels so you can freely move it around your garden as you work; it’ll be right on hand when you need it.
You cannot ignore that this machine is also super easy to maintain. Because it is electric, there’s no need for oil or fuel changes or general maintenance. It’s a lot easier to take care of than a petrol model.
However, I should point out that a lot of people have reported finding the setting dial a little complicated to understand. This is used to adjust the thickness of the branches for the machine but there is only a plus and minus sign without any real indication as to what thickness it’s currently set to handle. While this is by no means a dealbreaker, it could be a little clearer and will take some playing around with.
I was also impressed with the 3 year warranty which gives you the peace of mind that you’re covered in the event anything goes wrong. That said, Hyundai is an incredibly reliable brand and I’ve seen very few reviews complaining about its performance so I doubt you’d need to cash in on that warranty. Still, make sure that you register your tool upon purchasing it.
Safety
One of the things I know that a lot of people worry about when using a shredder is the potential for injury. But the Hyundai HYCH2800ES comes with a push stick which is designed to push branches into the feeder, keeping your hands well out of the way. As you can see from my video, the stick just makes it so much easier and comfortable to use.
What’s more, the machine is fitted with overload protection and it comes with a safety switch, removing the chance of any accidental start ups.

Pros And Cons
Should You Buy The Hyundai HYCH2800ES Electric Garden Shredder?
If you’re in the market for a garden shredder that’s easy to use and powerful then I would recommend the Hyundai HYCH2800ES. It’ll handle branches up to 4.4 cm so it’s great for most domestic gardening tasks. However, if you’re cutting large trees with thick branches then I would suggest going for one of Hyundai’s petrol models which have higher power suitable for this type of application.
I also think that the Hyundai HYCH2800ES is perfect for people with larger gardens and who need something that they can move around. The machine is lightweight and fitted with wheels so it’s really practical, especially if you struggle to move heavy weights around.
If you’re looking for a tool that’s low maintenance and isn’t going to cause a raucous every time it’s turned on then the Hyundai HYCH2800ES would be an excellent choice. Being electric, it’ll pretty much take care of itself and the motor runs at a very low volume so your neighbours won’t be disturbed.
I think it’s also worth mentioning that Hyundai is a very reliable brand that is known for its high quality tools. However, if you’re looking to buy something more affordable then keep your eyes peeled for my upcoming review of the Lawnmaster 2800w garden shredder which comes in quite a bit cheaper and yet still has many of the same features.
Conclusion
As I would expect, any tool from Hyundai is going to be a crowd pleaser and the Hyundai HYCH2800ES is no exception. As far as electric garden shredders are concerned, this one is very powerful and will handle surprisingly thick branches.
Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t going to handle that heavy overhanging branch from your old oak tree but for most general garden tasks, it’ll do very well.
Not only is the Hyundai HYCH2800ES powerful, it’s also a very practical tool. It comes with easy to use features, a decent sized collection bag and a generous warranty. What’s more, Hyundai has missed nothing out in terms of safety which is a real selling point for me.
Overall, I have been impressed with the Hyundai HYCH2800ES. There were a couple of minor downsides but nothing that would put me off using it again in the future.
