Power System
One of the first things you notice about the Cobra MX46SPE is that it boasts an incredibly powerful 1800 watt motor. This motor enables the smooth movement of the self-propelled drive which makes navigating your garden so much simpler and far less hard work on your part.
The self-propelled drive does only have one speed at 3.3k/ph (2.05 mph) which is just a little faster than some may like. Most self-propelled mowers will work between 2.5km/h to 4.5km/h, so Cobra have opted for the middle ground. While this may be a little quick for some people, it’ll certainly get things done more quickly . As far as I am aware, this is the only electric mower corded out there at the moment that comes with a self propelled drive. This is great if you prefer this type of power as you don’t have the risk of a battery running out like you would on a cordless mower or the costly maintenance and fuel requirements that come with a petrol mower.
What’s more, the Cobra MX46SPE comes fitted with a longer than average 15 metre power cable which is great since the usual 10 metre cable wouldn’t be suitable for a larger garden. Since self propelled mowers are usually designed for larger areas, this is a nice touch.

What really catches the attention when using the Cobra MX46SPE is that the high torque engine delivers an immaculate cut that is incredibly neat and certainly rivals the power and performance of a petrol lawn mower. Not only that, but this mower is suitable for thicker grass as well as damp grass without the risk of the motor stalling.
Deck and Blade
The Cobra MX46SPE features a large 46cm cutting deck making it ideal for people whose garden is on the larger side. The durable steel blade will provide you with many hours of cutting without dulling which is again essential when you are tackling a larger area. Moreover, this further demonstrates the Cobra MX46SPE’s ability to tackle more problematic areas such as dense grass.
Not only is this mower self-propelled like some of its petrol counterparts, but it also has a steel deck for added durability and build quality. The smooth steel powder coated deck, makes it easy to clean and wipe away grass cuttings especially when the grass is damp or has been left to dry on.

The Cobra MX46SPE is a very diverse machine, and it gives you some wonderful options when it comes to cutting height. There are seven in total ranging between 25mm and 75mm. OK, 25mm isn’t the lowest cutting height I have ever seen, but it is certainly generous enough for the needs of most domestic gardeners.
What’s more, the Cobra MX46SPE benefits from a single height adjustment lever which makes changing the height super easy and fast.
Handles
One of the most outstanding features of the Cobra MX46SPE is that it boasts adjustable handles which means that you can get the handles to a height that feels comfortable to you. Couple this with the self propelled drive and you’ve got a lawn mower that is beautifully easy to use.
What’s more, the handles will fold fully so that storing the lawn mower is far simpler to store, even when you are limited on space. That said, you must keep in mind that this is a larger mower so if you have a very compact storage space, you might still struggle.
Wheels
What I really liked about the wheels on the Cobra MX46SPE is that they are larger at the rear. This gives the user much greater stability and makes the lawn mower that much easier to manoeuvre. This is particularly useful if you are mowing on uneven or hilly terrain.
Roller (Stripes)
There is no rear roller on this Cobra MX46SPE, so no striped lawn appearance. If you simply have to have a rear roller, then take a look at the best electric lawn mowers with a rear roller.
Cutting Options – Cut & Collect, Side Discharge, Rear Discharge and Mulching
The biggest attraction of the Cobra MX46SPE is that it is a 4 in 1 mower making it far more versatile than many other electric models that are currently on the market. I cannot stress enough that this is the perfect solution for anyone who wants the clean and convenient power of electricity with the performance and versatility of a petrol mower.
There is the large grass collection box that I have already talked about as well as rear and side discharge chutes. The side discharge is particularly good for when you have let the grass grow a little longer
If you prefer, there is also a mulching plug included in the box which is easy to insert and will allow the grass clippings to circulate around the deck so that they are finely chopped up. They are then delivered back to the grass to act as a natural fertiliser.
Grass Collection Bag
With a cutting deck as large as it has, it would be unreasonable for Cobra to have given the Cobra MX46SPE anything other than a large grass box and you certainly aren’t going to be disappointed with the 60 litre capacity!
What’s even better is that this is a fabric collection bag so it will fold flat making storage easier. Moreover, this design means that much better air flow is promoted so the grass clippings are much more easily compacted allowing for a better fill. What does this mean for you? You will have to stop to empty far less allowing you to get on with actually mowing the garden.

Practicalities
It goes without saying that, thanks to the self-propelled design of this lawn mower, it is far easier to use than other similar ones. While it is exceptionally heavy, this isn’t unusual for a self-propelled mower so don’t let this put you off.
What’s more, when you consider everything that you are getting with the Cobra MX46SPE, it is excellent value for money. If you’re looking for something to rival petrol without the high price tag of servicing and fuel, I’d recommend checking this mower out, you won’t be disappointed.
Should You Buy the Cobra MX46SPE?
If you are looking for an alternative to a petrol (or cordless) mower and like the convenience and power of an electric lawn mower, then the Cobra MX46SPE is certainly a model worth thinking about. It has an excellent range of mowing functions and delivers in every way you would expect a petrol mower to only using a cleaner, more efficient method of power.
I would have to recommend this to people who have a bigger garden but are tired of putting in so much effort when maintaining it. Having a larger property doesn’t need to come with the headache of long days spent in the garden keeping it tidy. With the precise cutting, excellent versatility and self propelled drive, lawn mowing just got so much simpler.
Just bare in mind that there are self-propelled cordless mowers available that will offer more freedom of movement than a corded model. What a cordless won’t do, is offer the same level of power over longer periods of run time. Replacement batteries are expensive and some have long charging times, something you won’t get with a corded self-propelled mower like this Cobra MX46SPE.
Conclusion
There are no other electric mowers currently on the market that offer a self-propelled drive and this is one of the most attractive features of the Cobra MX46SPE. But its impressive range of features certainly doesn’t stop there.
