Power System
This mower is not much larger than their smallest model — but the motor is 25% more powerful, with 1250 watts, and that is with a blade 10% larger. This means that there is even more torque available to cut through thick and tall grass, without having to worry if the overload switch will kick in.
The high torque comes from a brushless carbon motor, so there is little friction or rubbing on the motor. This means that there are fewer parts to go wrong, the motor is more efficient, and it will last longer than a traditional brush-motor.

Performance
The increase in motor size on this Einhell GE-EM 1233 compared to its smaller brother, helps with torque without making a significant difference to the weight of the machine. The mower weighs 11.1 kilograms, which is still light for a mower of this power. Being lightweight, it is easy to manoeuvre around tough spots and tight corners.
At the base of the mower, the manufacture specifies 90 decibels when in action and 82 decibels at the operator level. So, this is around normal sound levels for a corded electric mower and is very competitive compared to many of the other petrol mowers out there on a Sunday morning.
Blades
The Einhell GE-EM 1233 uses a 33-centimetre blade, which works out to a cutting area of 0.34 square metres. The sharpened and treated steel blade makes clean cuts through thick grass. This mower has a mulching blade, more on mulching later.
Mulching helps to compact the grass and reduce the number of emptying trips you will need to make.
Height Adjustment
The most significant difference with this model over the Einhell GC-EM 1030, is that it adjusts the height of the deck on a central height lever. This central lever moves all four wheels at the same time and keeps the deck level. And the position of the lever means that the user can stay behind the machine to adjust the height.
This model has 5 heights to choose from that starts at 2 centimetres and can increase to 6 centimetres. Most people find that increments of 1 centimetre is fine for their preferred grass heights and this Einhell GE-EM 1233 does not disappoint.
Cutting Diameter
The 33-centimetre steel blade equates to a surface area of 0.342 square metres. When compared to Einhell’s EM1030, this is a footprint increase of over 20%. On a lawn, this increase in the cutting area will make a notable reduction in the mowing time, even on a small or medium 300 square metre garden.
Grass Box Capacity
The Einhell GE-EM 1233 comes with a large 30-litre capacity grass box. The box is plastic and splits into two halves for easier storage. A row of solid mesh panels, on the side of the box, helps with airflow and thus the flow of grass into the box.
The grass box hangs on the rear of the machine from two strong and thick plastic hooks. This box also has a mechanical filling level indicator — viewable from the top of the box. And the top of the box has a solid plastic handle to makes lifting it easier when laden with grass.
Practicalities
- This mower has a single-side throttle, which is on the right-hand side of the machine, so lefties may find it uncomfortable to use for long periods.
- The mower uses a single lift blade. You can sharpen this blade, and replacements are inexpensive and easy to find.
- The deck is plastic, which has the advantage of not rusting, is strong and robust and is light to keep the overall weight down to a minimum.
- Being a corded electric mower, maintenance is on the low side, and there are few parts that can go wrong. And the lawnmower needs little to no preparation for winter storage.
- The handle double folds for ease of storage, as does the grass collection box.
- A central height control lever makes adjusting the deck much easier and safer.
Safety Features
To activate the throttle on the right side of the handrail, the user must use their other hand to push an activation button. The operator must repeat this process each time after releasing the throttle. Einhell still recommends that the user unplugs the machine before venturing near the blade for maintenance, this is completely understandable.
The motor has a built-in automated shut-off switch that will activate if the blade gets stuck or if the motor starts to overheat. The switch deactivates once the motor returns to normal temperature.
The manufacturer specifies that this Einhell GE-EM 1233 makes 96 decibels at the base of the machine when in use. This reduces to 82 decibels at the operator level thanks to the plastic cowling, but this is normal for most electric mowers.
Roller (Stripes)
There is no roller or striper for this model from Einhell. But there are many aftermarket rollers out there, with universal fittings. The alternative is to use a garden broom or use the savings made on buying this mower to buy a separate manual roller. Anyway, a lightweight electric mower is not as effective at creating long lasting lawn stripes as a heavier petrol mower fitted with a dedicated rear roller.
Mulching
This mower comes with a mulching blade, though this model does not come with a mulching plug. The mulching plug is an optional extra from Einhell. Without the plug, the grass will pile up behind the grass box protection plate and is therefore not suitable for mulching unless you purchase the mulching plug.

Should You Buy This Model – Verdict
For and entry-level mower, this model has more than you would expect. The motor is a decent size, and its power matches the 33-centimetre mulching blade. The central height adjustment lever is a far safer way to change the height over the deck, rather than individual wheel adjustments.
Safety is also good, with a motor shut-off switch and a throttle cut-off button the prevent accidental starting. The wheels are small and plastic, but this is a light-duty mower intended for lawns of 300 square metres or less, so they will never be under great strain.
Einhell makes great motors for their products, and even though a plastic deck can sound a little cheap, the quality of the plastic is high. It is a mystery why a mulching plug does not come with the unit. It is possible that not everyone wants to mulch, and adding the plug adds too much to the price of the mower.
