Summary

Flymo EasiGlide 330 Review

Flymo’s EasiGlide 330 (VX) is the big brother of the EasiGlide 300 and offers a large 1700W motor and some extras that make it more user-friendly. The mower uses a hover system to reduce effort when moving around your lawn and it is aimed at small to medium garden sizes. The Flymo EasiGlide 330 has a respectable 33cm cutting diameter with an integrated 20 litre grass collection box and weighs in at only 8.2kg.

EasiGlide 330 Basic vs EasiGlide 330VX – What’s the Difference?

There are two versions of the EasiGlide 330, the Basic and the VX model. The difference is simply that the VX version has a vision window and the Basic model does not. Apart from that, they have the same features and dimensions.

Main Features

  • Lawn Size: small to medium
  • Power: 1700 Watt
  • Cable Length: 10 metre cord, mains power
  • Blade Length: 33cm, metal
  • Number of Cutting Heights: 4 (from 10mm to 30mm)
  • Grass Box Capacity: 20 L
  • Weight: 8.2 Kg

Power System

The 330VX makes use of a powerful 1700 watt motor that spins at 4,300 rotations per minute. The older EasiGlide 330 model only had 1400w motor, so it’s nice that Flymo now include the more powerful 1700w motor as standard on both the 300 and the 330 (as of 2021). This is the same RPM as the 1400w motor, though offering more torque. And this is more than enough power for the blade and for the fan to lift the mower off the ground to hover and provide a precise and trouble free cut.

Power Cable

Flymo EasiGlide 330 VX Review

The Flymo EasiGlide 330 comes with a preinstalled 10 metre cable, making it ready to go. But if you need a longer cable, the manufacturer makes longer cables that you can rewire yourself.

Considering the size of lawns that this machine is intended for, a 10 metre cable is an acceptable length to offer but could have been a little longer.

Blades

The blade is made from metal, and Flymo recommends the blade be changed rather than sharpened when they stop working. Original replacements from Flymo are inexpensive and easy to find, and they will last well.

Features In Detail

Height Adjustment

There are 4 cutting height levels to choose from on this Flymo EasiGlide 330, ranging from 10mm to 30mm. Adjustments are made by adding or removing a spacer from between the blade and the motor. This is unavoidable since the gap between the deck lip and the lawn needs to stay constant for hovering.

In the real world, most operators will not change the cutting height once they have found the ideal position.

This is a quick and easy process and can be seen in the video below.

Cutting Diameter

The blade is 33 centimetre in diameter, 3 centimetres longer than the Flymo 300. This comes to a cutting area increase of over 10% over the EasiGlide 300, which is substantial.

Roller (Stripes)

There are front rollers on the mower, to help the unit ride over small obstacles in the garden, but there is no fitted roller or striper. As with the 300, the weight of the machine’s air pressure pressing on the grass as it travels will line up the grass. But it does not have the weight to make lasting stripes.

At the front of the Flymo EasiGlide 330 there is a roller but this is purely used to manoeuvre the machine when not in use, for easy transportation.

Grass Box Capacity

Despite having a larger motor, the grass box capacity is the same at 20 litres, which is still more than sufficient for trimming a small lawn. The lid of the grass box has a clear screen installed, that the operator can use to judge when the box is full and in need of emptying.

Flymo EasiGlide 330 Practicalities

A folding handle converts 135 centimetres down to a convenient 69 centimetres for storage. The Flymo EasiGlide 330 is lightweight, so lifting it onto a high shelf is possible for most people’s ability. And the small grass box window (VX models) makes it easy to see when the cuttings need disposing of.

Another great feature of the EasiGlide range of mowers is the inclusion of a roller at the front of the mower. This is not to produce a stripy lawn but to assist in wheeling the mower around when not in use. This is a nice touch from Flymo as it saves you having to carry the mower to the shed or garage.

Another great feature of this Flymo EasiGlide 330VX is the dual starter handles suitable for both, left and right-handed users, as only one handle needs to be held at any one time. This also can assist when manoeuvring the mower around flower beds and obstacles in your garden.

I have created a comparison table below to show the differences between the range of Flymo Hover mowers to assist with your choice.

Safety Features

Flymo EasiGlide 330 Review

To start-up the mower, there is a safety switch that needs deactivating before the machine will run for additional safety. And if the cable is damaged, the power surge switch will cut power to the machine.

Mulching

There is no mulching function on this machine. The design does compact the grass more than many other models, meaning that it needs less routine emptying.

Should You Buy this Flymo EasiGlide 330 VX?

This is a mower for convenient use on a small to medium sized lawn. The Flymo EasiGlide 330VX is for those that want a small, lightweight and compact lawn mower that is quick to set up and start using.

This mower’s ideal for those that:

  • People with small to medium sized gardens (250m² or less).
  • People that require lightweight, quiet and easy to use hover mower.
  • Those that are looking for a functional, reliable and good value mower.
  • Those that requires a good sized 33cm cutting width.
  • Requires a respectable 1700W motor for longer/thicker lawns.
  • Those that require a foldable handle mower for compact storage.
  • People that like a trusted and well supported brand – Flymo.
  • Those that require a mower where parts are easy to obtain.

Conclusion

If the aim is to keep a small lawn in check, then this is the perfect machine. It is small enough to live in a small box in the garden or even under the stairwell. The 330VX is clean and quiet, with few moving parts.

Taller operators may find it little uncomfortable to use this mower for longer periods as the handlebars cannot be extended. This is standard across most mowers at this price point and means that the operator may find themselves bending over the machine to push it.

Flymo EasiGlide 330 Review

Another great feature of this Flymo EasiGlide 330VX is the rate at which it compacts the grass clippings into its 20 litre grass collection box. This helps to reduce the number of stops and trips needed to be made to the compost bin.

In summary, this is a fantastic  hover mower that is not going to break the bank. It has features that will make cutting your lawn a breeze as opposed to paying for features that are gimmicks and will never be used. This mower can simply be pulled out of the shed or garage, plugged in and will get the job done with minimal fuss and effort. Remember this is a trusted Flymo, they have been in the hover mower business for decades and really do know  how to make a functional, well-built and good value hover mower.

For larger lawns, over 300 metres squared, you would need to look for an alternative hover mower that has a larger deck size and a more powerful motor such as the Flymo EasiGlide 360. This 360 model has a 1800w motor but more importantly a larger 36cm deck and cutting width.

  1. “Easier by Design”! I have had Flymo lawn mowers all my life and as I live on a hill they have been brilliant in the past. As I have got older the need for lighter machines became essential so the last one was a small hover mower, which has been good but as it was small, mowing was taking too long so I decided I needed a bigger model. The Flymo 400 seemed perfect but no one had one in stock and it seemed to become increasingly clear it had been discontinued, though no one would confirm. I then decided from the write up to get the Easi Glide 330 mower and it arrived yesterday. Set it all up but the handle was rigidly set in one position and after fiddling around couldn’t move it so thought it was obviously the design. Mowed my lawn and it seemed fine but with the handle in a fixed position meant I was not able to mow under low lying shrubs, which was a nuisance but OMG… not nearly as much as when I tried to put it the machine away. I have a small garden shed and soon realised I needed the handle to move! What a shocking design fault! I finally learnt what you needed to do and struggled, battled even, to pull and push to alter the position. As soon as I succeed in getting one side to move, the moment you try and do the other side, the first side clicks back into the original position, so you have to start all over again. It is a struggle so why, why, why is this not a free moving handle like all the other machines I have had?? I am 69 so not as strong as I was but the logo is “Easier by Design” yet this is not in any way ‘easy’ and is quite simply a major design fault! The other thing I have noticed with these mowers is they have endless little ‘pockets’ (that is all I can describe them as) all over the plastic covers, where small amounts of grass/dust collect so cleaning is almost impossible and another nightmare. Why can’t these machines have more streamlined bodies?

    1. Hi Diana

Thanks very much for your comment and for your experience of this mower. Yes I noticed this on some other Flymo mowers that I tested that the handles are fixed apart from when they are folded down.

      Thanks
      Mark

  2. Many thanks for this great review and comparison table, it helped me make an informed decision re what is best for my needs.

Thanks again Mark, keep up the good work!
