The Mountfield Electress 34 Li is an electric cordless lawn mower weighing just 12kg and is powered by two 4.0Ah batteries. It has a 34cm cutting blade, a 35 litre grass collection bag and is designed for small to medium lawns up to 250m². There are 6 cutting heights available that range from 25mm to 75mm and the mower comes with a two year manufactures warranty.
If you are looking for a well built lawn mower, then one of the first brands that I would always suggest would be Mountfield. The brand is owned by STIGA, so you can feel confident of the build quality, but there is a lot more to get excited about. This might be a budget lawn mower, but you’d never know when you look at how well this mower is built and performs.
Part of the Freedom 100 series, the Mountfield Electress 34 Li is a lawn mower that is designed for smaller gardening needs. Within the range, there are three lawn mowers and a selection of four other gardening tools. The complete range of the Freedom 100 Series tools can be seen here. While this is the middle of the road lawn mower, it does have a bigger and smaller brother if you have a slightly larger or smaller garden. But more on that later.
The Electress 34 Li cordless mower has a great range of cutting heights, central adjustment, excellent traction and powerful lithium-ion batteries, plus much more besides. I’m really excited to share the ins and outs of this product with you, so let’s dive into my Mountfield Electress 34 Li review to find out more.
- 34cm cutting width
- For lawns up to 250m²
- 35 litre hybrid grass collection bag
- Folding handle
- 6 cutting heights
- 2 x 4.0Ah STIGA batteries
- Up to 30 minute run time
- 2-year warranty
Power System and Battery
Considering this is a more affordable lawn mower, you could be forgiven for thinking that it doesn’t pack much of a punch where power is concerned. Well, I’m here to tell you to erase that thought from your mind right now, because this is a surprisingly powerful little machine.
Alright, it doesn’t have the power of a petrol mower, but nobody would expect that from a smaller cordless. But with two powerful 4.0Ah STIGA batteries, you get a nice little run out of the motor. Depending on the conditions, you could get anywhere up to thirty minutes of juice per charge and while that might not sound like a lot, just keep in mind that this is designed for smaller spaces.
Many cordless mowers require you to purchase the battery and charger separately which can often ramp up the cost. This is certainly the case for a lot of cheaper lawn mowers, so you end up spending the same anyway. But the Mountfield Electress 34 Li comes with a dual battery charger included, as well as those powerful batteries we discussed earlier.
However, one thing that did leave me a little disappointed was the charging time. The batteries will take up to 140 minutes to get a full charge. While this isn’t the longest time in the world, it’s definitely longer than you’d like for 30 minutes of power. That being said, it’s not a deal-breaker, just make sure you’re fully charged before you start mowing.
Just remember, that whilst the 140 minutes may be longer compared to some other brands, these are 4.0Ah batteries, not 2.5Ah batteries provided with some other makes. As mentioned above Mountfield provide a dual charger, so both batteries can be charged simultaneously.
In terms of how well this lawn mower performs, you need to keep in mind what it is designed for. If you’re looking for something that will hack through seriously overgrown grass, you’re in the wrong place. However, if you’re after an everyday lawn mower that will work to maintain your garden, then there isn’t much else that would do as well as the Electress 34 Li.
This is also a really good choice for slightly tricky conditions and this is thanks to the grooved wheels which result in incredible traction. If the grass is slightly slippery or you’re working on a slight incline, this is a must-have feature.
Deck and Blade
The Mountfield Electress 34 Li cordless mower boasts a 34cm cutting deck and a polypropylene chassis that is designed for durability and to keep the equipment lightweight. While steel mowers might be susceptible to rust, this material is entirely rust proof and relatively robust. As I mentioned earlier, Mountfield is a brand owned by STIGA so if you are looking for something that is well made, then you’ll certainly be pleased with what you get here.
With a 34cm cutting diameter, this is an ideal lawn mower for smaller gardens and is designed to tackle areas up to 250m². However, if you need something a little smaller, it does have a younger brother, the Electress 30 Li which is suitable for even smaller lawns up to 150². But do keep in mind that this smaller model does only have three cutting heights and comes with just one 4Ah battery so the power and run time will be less.
Alternatively, the Electress 34 has an older brother, the Mountfield Electress 38 Li which is designed for medium gardens measuring up to 350m², so if you’re keen to get this mower but have a larger lawn, then you won’t miss out.

When it comes to storage, one of the biggest problems with some lawn mowers is that the handles get in the way. You’ll find that most modern mowers come with folding handles, but this isn’t the case 100% of the time. Fortunately, Mountfield has got you covered and this one comes with fully folding handles to reduce the size for storage.
What’s more, the handle is height adjustable so you can set it to a height that feels comfortable for you. The single switch is easy to reach and makes this a very comfortable and easy to use lawn mower. It’s a shame though that Mountfield did not include the Operator Presence Control lever on each side of the bars, as this makes it easier when going round corners.
For a small lawn mower that is on the lower end of the scale in terms of budget, I wasn’t expecting there to be quite as many options when it comes to cutting heights. But in total, you have a choice of six cutting heights between 25mm and 75mm. These are easy to alter using the central cutting height lever, so there’s no messing around when you’re ready to get started.
Grass Collection Box
This lawn mower comes with a 30-litre hybrid grass collector, which is ideal for the size lawn that it will be working with. It is easy to remove and put back on reducing the time spent emptying the mower. A lot of users have also reported that the grass box does a good job of compacting and containing the grass clippings until you are ready to empty, which is reassuring.
Both this 34 Li and the 38 Li have hybrid collection boxes for good circulation and compact storage. The smaller Electress 30 Li model has a solid collection box that does not fold flat.
To see a complete breakdown of the difference between the Electress models, take a look at the comparison table above.
There is no rear roller with this Mountfield Electress 34 Li mower, therefore you will NOT achieve a striped lawn appearance. It is worth noting anyway, that any lightweight mower fitted with a rear roller will not achieve long lasting lawn stripes. Only heavier petrol powered mowers produce defined and longer lasting stripes on your lawn.
Unfortunately there is no mulching option with this mower, this mower is cut and collect only.
As with all cordless mowers, this one comes with the standard safety button that releases the Operator Presence Control lever. It is also supplied with a removable safety key next to the batteries. When this key is removed, the mower cannot be started.
I have mentioned throughout this Mountfield Electress 34 Li review that this is a budget friendly lawn mower and the fact that it also comes with a 2-year warranty makes it extremely desirable. But much more than this, it is effortlessly easy to use. If you are someone who has struggled with push mowers in the past, the lightweight design of this one will make using one much more possible. It is just 12kg and moves around freely thanks to the smooth running and larger rear wheels. Of course, they have excellent traction, as I mentioned earlier so this is suitable for use on slightly uneven and sloped ground.
Remember, I mentioned earlier that the batteries on this mower can be shared with other tools in the Freedom 100 Series. These include blowers, grass trimmers, hedge trimmers and multi-tools.
Other Freedom 100 Series Tools.

Pros and Cons
Should You Buy This Model?
I would have to recommend this model to anyone who needs a relatively versatile lawn mower without all the frills. If you are someone who likes to get outdoors and get their garden work done in as little time as possible without fuss, then this handy little lawn mower will likely meet your needs. It is also excellent for people who stay on top of maintaining their lawns, as it is better suited to lighter work. If you’re looking for something to plough through dense grass that hasn’t seen a mower in months, then this model will most certainly not work for you.
For anyone who is just starting to get to grips with what a lawn mower can do and wants to ease themselves in, this is a great place to start. This mower is also ideal for those looking for a lightweight cordless model, which is easy to manoeuvre around the lawn, easy to operate and carry to and from the shed or garage. While it produces clean and effective cut, it doesn’t overwhelm you with complicated features that could leave owners scratching their heads.
Within the Freedom 100 series, there are three lawn mowers, all with different area sizes in mind. Right in the middle of this is this Electress 34 Li, which is a reliable and powerful little lawn mower designed for everyday use in the smaller garden. While it doesn’t have as many features as some of the more high end models, such as mulching or a rear roller, it does provide you with everything you need to have a nicely maintained lawn with very little effort.
