The Mountfield Electress 30 Li is an electric cordless lawn mower weighing just 11kg and is powered by one 4.0Ah battery. It has a 30cm cutting blade, a 30 litre grass collection bag and is designed for smaller lawns up to 150m². There are 3 cutting heights available that range from 25mm to 75mm and the mower comes with a two year manufacturer’s warranty.
While I would always suggest investing in a lawn mower if you want power and quality, this same power and quality can often be found in smaller mowers for a much more affordable cost. A prime example of this is the Mountfield Electress 30 Li which is a well-built, reliable and compact little mower ideal for smaller gardens. If you don’t want the hassle of an electric corded mower, but want similar power whilst being able to enjoy the freedom of no cord, then something like this won’t disappoint.
While it may be compact, the Electress 30 runs on a powerful 4.0Ah STIGA battery and runs incredibly well. You might only want to cover a smaller area with this model since it is designed for lawns up to 150m² and has a shorter run time. But if you’re tackling a small patch, I couldn’t recommend much else for the job.
It’s got some very practical features and while there aren’t any fancy cutting methods or a massive choice of cutting heights, for the price you’re paying, you’re getting an impressive bit of kit. If you like the idea of this mower but feel that it is a little too small for your lawn, it does have two older brothers with 34cm and 38cm cutting widths; these are suitable for lawns up to 250m² or 350m². For more information see the comparison table below. But for this model, there is a lot to talk about so let’s take a closer look at my in depth Mountfield Electress 30 Li review.
- 30cm cutting width
- 1 x 4.0Ah STIGA battery
- Durable polypropylene deck
- 30-litre grass box
- up to 20 minutes running time
- 2-year warranty
Power System and Battery
Looking at this very compact lawn mower, one might easily believe that it didn’t wield much power at all, but the good thing about Mountfield is that it is owned by STIGA. If you’re familiar with this company, you will know of the quality and performance that their clientele have come to expect and this is evident within this model.
The lawn mower runs on a powerful 4.0Ah STIGA battery that offers an impressive performance. You only need to look at the online reviews that rave about how much power this mower has, some have even compared it to the might of petrol, but naturally this would never be the case. With this being a lithium-ion battery, you can also feel confident that it won’t give up after a few months of use; these batteries are designed to stand the test of time.
The battery that is supplied with this mower can be shared with other tools in the Freedom 100 Series. These include blowers, grass trimmers, hedge trimmers and multi-tools. At this point in time there aren’t a huge amount of tools in this range, but the selection is continuing to grow.
There are some cordless lawn mowers that don’t come with a battery or charger (bare tool) and as such, you have to fork out the additional cost for these. This is especially true with more budget-friendly options, but the good news with this one is that everything is included.
As part of the Freedom 100 series from Mountfield, the Electress 30 has been designed for smaller lawns. Now, I know that many of you will need something much larger so before I talk about the performance you can expect from this, let me give you a brief introduction to the other mowers in the range.
The Freedom 100 range features 3 lawn mowers as well as a leaf blower, grass trimmer, hedge trimmer and a multi tool. They’re all affordable so make a great choice for those looking to replace all of their garden equipment. The other two mowers in the series have larger cutting widths at 34cm and 38cm yet deliver the same impressive performance as this one. What’s more, they have a lever for the height adjustment, which this one doesn’t and have a few more choices where height is concerned. These two larger mowers also run using two 4.0Ah batteries, so will have significantly more power / run time, which you will need for a larger area.
With all of this in mind, the Electress 30 Li still gives a very good performance and will make light work of maintaining your garden. It’s not going to power through dense grass and sort out a garden renovation project, but for day to day mowing, this is a must have tool.
It gives you up to 20 minutes running time, which doesn’t sound like a lot, and it isn’t, but for a smaller area, you probably wouldn’t use all of this in one go anyway.
Deck and Blade
One of the greatest things about anything that is associated with STIGA is that you can always feel confident about the build quality. The deck is made from polypropylene, which is extremely heavy duty whilst remaining lightweight. It will resist moisture and is commonly used in garden tools for this very reason. It’ll also fare well under impact so if you hit something while mowing, there likely won’t be a lot of, if any, damage.
As I have mentioned, the Electress 30 Li features a 30cm cutting diameter. This is very small but for gardens up to 150 square metres, it will serve you perfectly well.
As already mentioned above this Electress 30 Li has two older brothers, the Mountfield Electress 34 Li and the Mountfield Electress 38 Li , so if you’re keen to get this mower but have a larger lawn, then you won’t miss out.
Mountfield Electress Comparison Table

While this lawn mower doesn’t have a lot of cutting options or high-end features, it does have some pretty impressive wheels. With a grooved design, the wheels are ideal for use on slippery or uneven surfaces thanks to the excellent traction. If your garden has awkward slopes then this is an essential feature both for safety and ease of use.
Whilst this Mountfield Electress does have folding handles, they only fold at the mid point and NOT at the lower deck point. In comparison the handles on its larger brothers do indeed fold at both the mid and lower point.
Another point worth noting is the fact that the entire Electress range have only a single Operator Presence Control lever (OPC) on the right hand side. Some competitors will either have a bar that runs across the whole length of the handle or a handle on each side, making it more comfortable for those who are left handed, but also for manoeuvring around obstacles on your lawn.
The Mountfield Electress 30 Li comes with a choice of three cutting heights. Now, I’ll admit, this isn’t the most generous number of options I have ever seen, but when you consider how little you are paying for this lawn mower and what a delight it is to use, you couldn’t expect too much in the way of height adjustment.
If you’ve been used to the ease of a height adjustment lever, then the axle method might take a little getting used to. While this isn’t as simple as a lever, I have to stress again that for a budget-friendly mower some of these functions won’t be included, but that doesn’t mean that the overall performance will be affected.
Grass Collection Box
Considering that this is a lawn mower designed for smaller areas, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see that it comes with a decent sized grass box, which can hold up to 30 litres of clippings. This will go towards reducing mowing time, which is great if you want something that will get the job done quickly.
What’s more, the grass box is made from durable plastic which will prolong its life span no matter what you put it through.
Unlike this Electres 30 Li the 34 Li and the 38 Li have hybrid collection boxes for good circulation and compact storage. In comparison this smaller Electress 30 Li model has a solid collection box that does not fold flat.
To see a complete breakdown of the difference between the Electress models, take a look at the comparison table above.
There is no rear roller with this Mountfield Electress 30 Li mower, therefore you will NOT achieve a striped lawn appearance. It is worth noting anyway, that any lightweight mower fitted with a rear roller will not achieve long lasting lawn stripes. Only heavier petrol powered mowers produce defined and longer lasting stripes on your lawn.
Unfortunately there is no mulching option with this mower, this mower is cut and collect only.
As with all cordless mowers, this one comes with the standard safety button that releases the Operator Presence Control lever. It is also supplied with a removable safety key next to the batteries. When this key is removed, the mower cannot be started.
Practically speaking, the Mountfield Electress 30 Li has a lot going for it. Primarily, you will notice just how lightweight this mower is. If you’ve long been struggling with a hefty petrol lawn mower, this is going to feel like a cloud in comparison. Lightweight design is something that most cordless mowers benefit from, but at just 11kg, this does it perfectly.
It is also a very compact machine and this makes storing it so much simpler. If you’re short on storage space, which is likely the case if you have a very small garden, design elements like a slimline body can be extremely important.
Switching from petrol can make the world of difference in terms of how easy the mower is to use. Without any fumes and an easy start function, you’ll be comfortably mowing in no time.
Remember, I mentioned earlier that the batteries on this mower can be shared with other tools in the Freedom 100 Series. As already mentioned these include a limited range of blowers, grass trimmers, hedge trimmers and multi-tools.

Pros and Cons
Should You Buy This Model?
If you have been considering getting a budget-friendly cordless lawn mower for a smaller garden then there isn’t much that would encourage me to deter you from buying this mower. It is reliable, lightweight and incredibly powerful for saying how compact it is. For all of these reasons, this would make an excellent first lawn mower.
You would likely also benefit from this if you struggle with strength or mobility as the lightweight design, that is easy to control, can make mowing more accessible.
For anyone with a smaller lawn, this will help you to stay on top of keeping your lawn tidy and well-maintained. If you’re looking for something much more well-equipped to tackle complex lawn needs, then this might not be for you, but if you need something for everyday mowing, it comes highly recommended.
The Freedom 100 series is designed for affordability and performance. This is the smallest lawn mower from the range, but small is definitely mighty in this case. The Mountfield Electress 30Li runs on a powerful battery that gives it that spring in its step that many mowers are missing.
It is perfect for gardens up to 150 square metres and comes with a choice of three cutting heights. It might not be the most diverse mower with only cut and collect, but it offers you more than enough to keep the grass looking its best.
