Summary
The Webb R18SP Supreme is a self-propelled petrol lawn mower designed for medium to large lawns up to 1,500m² thanks to its good size 46cm cutting width and large 60-litre grass collection box. It offers 3-in-1 cutting functions including cut & collect, mulching and rear discharge. There is an excellent choice of 7 cutting heights from 25mm and 75mm and equipped with the excellent Briggs and Stratton 450 E series engine.
The Webb R18SP Supreme is a diverse and powerful petrol lawn mower that is packed with features making it the perfect addition to your garden tool collection. If you have a medium to large sized garden, the 46cm cutting width will be more than sufficient and with several ways to mow, you won’t be limited on what you can do with this machine.
I was really impressed with how easy this mower was to assemble and use. It runs smoothly and with a rear wheel self-propelled drive, you glide around the garden in no time at all. The mower is sturdy and well made, featuring a steel mowing deck with a handy wash port.
Not only do you get a great choice when it comes to mowing modes, but there are also seven cutting heights and an adjustable handle. Engine
One of the first things that caught my eye when looking at this Webb R18SP Supreme mower was the powerful Briggs and Stratton 450 E Series engine. This delivers a beautiful amount of power that is perfect for a mower of this size. However, if you have slightly more demanding conditions such as denser grass or bumpier terrain, you might need something with just that little bit of extra get up and go. In that case, the Webb WER18HW Supreme High-Wheel edition with a Briggs and Stratton 500 E series 140cc engine may be a little more suitable.
This Webb R18SP mower has a 125cc 4-stroke engine that boasts OHV technology. Essentially, what this means is that you are getting an engine that kicks out lower emissions, less noise (96 dB) and is much more generous when it comes to fuel consumption.
The lawn mower boasts an easy-to-use recoil start, that largely gets going on the first attempt and offers fewer vibrations for a more comfortable mowing experience.

Performance
As I have mentioned, the features of the engine on this mower make it a delight to use. It’s quiet, efficient and gives off very few vibrations. But this pleasant mowing experience is also backed by an easy to manoeuvre design. The Webb R18SP Supreme boasts an excellent self-propelled drive and various features that make it a dream to operate.
The robust Briggs and Stratton engine powers a steel rotary blade at 2800 rpm, that makes light work of thick lawns. If you’re covering a medium-sized area, this is perfect and with a precise and clean cut, you’ll cover more ground in less time.
Self-Propelled Drive
The Webb Supreme has a very nice rear wheel drive function that makes going over sloped ground a lot easier. However, the one downside is that this is only a single speed self-propelled drive, so you have to travel at a predetermined pace. This isn’t a problem for most people, but if you struggle with mobility, it would be nice to have the option to alter the speed.
Webb recommend that any slope greater than 20 degrees, should be mowed across the slope as opposed to up and down.
Blade and Deck
This mower features a solid steel cutting deck that is designed for durability. There is the additional touch of a wash port which allows you to rinse the deck once you have finished mowing. This allows you to keep the mower in tip top, clean condition without much hassle, ultimately prolonging its life and performance.
The rotary steel blade is extremely effective and delivers a precise and accurate cut.
Cutting Diameter
The cutting width of this Webb R18SP Supreme lawn mower is 46cm, that’s around 18 inches. This is the perfect size for medium to larger-sized gardens and is a good balance between getting the job done fast and minimising the amount of storage required. Thanks to the excellent level of power, delivered by the Briggs and Stratton engine, and a good quality blade you will notice that getting around the garden feels effortless and efficient.
Handles
There is normally something to get excited about when it comes to mower’s handles; some will be super comfortable, some can be adjusted and others give you easy access to the controls. But what if I told you that the Webb R18SP Supreme has a handle that combines all of this and then some?
Many people would think that the mower’s handle is the least of your concern, especially when compared to the quality of the blade or the engine. But in truth, an uncomfortable handle that’s tricky to use can make your mowing sessions miserable.
This one has a soft grip which will prevent sore hands and can also be adjusted to suit your height. Furthermore, the handle will fold down when not in use making the mower much easier and compact to store.
The folding lever on each side is large and easy to operate (one of the largest I have seen).
The only slight negative is that the nut and bolt need to be removed in order to fold the handles at the lower deck point. Webb have provided a larger wing nut to do this more easily, however it would have been nice to have the same quick release lever for convenience.
Height Adjustment
The Webb Supreme lawn mower comes with a choice of seven cutting heights ranging between 25mm and 75mm. This gives you more than enough diversity to tackle the grass at any point in the year, and switching between the cutting heights is super simple thanks to the central single lever.
I have to say that this is one of the easiest and effective single height adjustment levers I have tested on any mower; you would not expect anything less from Webb.
Mowing Features
This Webb R18SP Supreme mower boasts 3 mowing functions that give it excellent versatility. There is the option to use the grass collection bag, put in the mulching plug or use the rear discharge feature. This is typically enough for most users, however, if you like a mower with side discharge, the higher spec model (Webb R18HW Supreme) features this.
Mulching
Having the option to go into mulching mode is something that can make or break a decision when it comes to choosing a mower. Thankfully, the Webb R18SP Supreme does come with a handy mulching plug giving you the option to send the grass clippings back to the lawn to boost nutrients and improve the growth.
If you would like to learn more about what mulching is and the benefits to your lawn, check out my article – The Benefits of Mulching Lawn Mowers.
Grass Collection Box
If you’re going for the cut and collect option, you certainly won’t be let down since this mower comes with a hefty 60-litre hybrid grass collection box that is perfect for medium to large lawns. A grass box of this size will limit the number of times you need to stop and empty and with an Easi-View design, you won’t need to keep checking to see if it is full.
Thanks to the fabric design, the grass box can be collapsed making it much easier to store when not in use and ensures good air circulation for effective collecting. I really like that the top (and slightly over the side) of the collection box is solid. This helps limit any damage to the fabric when mowing close to walls and hedges. It also reduces the amount of dust and debris thrown up into the operators face when mowing dry and dusty lawns.
Safety Features
One of the greatest things about this Webb R18SP Supreme mower is how easy it is to start. Recoil start can often be tricky and you could end up injuring yourself. But the Webb Supreme has a wonderfully easy to start engine as you would expect from Briggs and Stratton.
The mower comes with the standard Operator Presence Control Lever across the handles that when released, stops the engine.
Furthermore, with the lower emissions and quieter operation, this lawn mower is much more eco-friendly.
Practicalities
It’s difficult to ignore the many features on the handle that make the user experience much more pleasant. When you couple this with the choice of cutting heights and mowing functions, you get a lawn mower that is hugely practical in a variety of situations. Yes, there are mowers that come with variable speed, electric start, and a host of features you may never use. What you get here is a tried and tested “Webb” mower, a mower that has what it needs to get the job done effectively with no fancy gadgets to get in the way, or indeed add to the cost.
With a solid design, this is a machine that is built to last and won’t let you down, regardless of what you put it through. But just to be sure, it comes with a generous two-year warranty.
The addition of the hose wash port makes keeping the mower clean so much easier and you won’t need to go through any laborious cleaning or maintenance.
If there was anything that I had to point out that made this any less practical than I would have expected, it’s that the stability may be affected due to slightly smaller rear wheels. However, while this is a minor point, if it is something that would bother you, the higher spec model (Webb R18HW Supreme) does have larger rear wheels, so may be slightly easier and stable to move on uneven or slopped lawns.

Pros and Cons
Should You Buy This Model?
Do I think you should purchase this Webb R18SP Supreme mower? In a nutshell, I’d have to say yes. It’s powerful, reliable and gets the job done very well. However, that’s a very generalised view so before you run out and commit, I should point out that the Webb Supreme is best suited for medium-sized lawns but does lack in some areas, where its older brother may be more suitable.
If you prefer slightly more stability and the option to switch between speeds, then this might not be the model for you. Going for the higher spec version might be closer to meeting your needs. Conversely, if these things aren’t an issue, and you want something versatile and durable, then this is definitely a lawn mower worth considering.
Please refer to my comparison table above to ensure you pick the model that best suits your needs.
Conclusion
In terms of power and durability, this Webb R18SP Supreme is an excellent lawn mower. It has a cutting width of 46cm which is great for most gardens and gives you a range of mowing options and cutting heights so that you can tailor the mowing experience to the needs of your garden.
A rear wheel self-propelled drive makes for smooth operation that is great for sloped lawns and the robust Briggs and Stratton engine gives you the confidence that this is going to be a reliable and powerful machine.
