Webb Classic WER510SP Review

If you’re in the market for a well made British lawn mower then WEBB is a brand that you will want to consider. Not only do they offer some very well built and high quality products but the after sales support is some of the best I have experienced.

So, that’s the brand decided, but what about the model? Well, I’ve been looking at the WEBB WER510SP and I’m pleased to say that it has some pretty good features and performs very well for something that isn’t going to break the bank. Yes, it is a little more expensive than brands like Murray or Yard Force but this is evident in the quality and versatility of this machine.

With four mowing modes, seven cutting heights and an engine that you can feel proud of, the WEBB WER510SP is the ultimate petrol mower for the medium to large garden. In my WEBB WER510SP review, I’ll take you through its most important points.

Main Features

  • Cutting Deck: 51cm
  • Cutting Heights: 7 from 25mm to 75mm
  • Cutting options: 4 – mulching, cut & collect, rear discharge and side discharge
  • Engine: Webb DVO173 173cc
  • Drive: Self-propelled single speed
  • Collection bag size: 60 litre
  • Guarantee: 2 year

Engine

Webb Classic WER510SP Engine

The WEBB WER510SP runs on a powerful 173cc 4 stroke Webb engine, model number DVO173. What I love about this is that it gives you the peace of mind that you’ve got an engine that will stand the test of time. What’s more, during its service life, it’ll operate smoothly and with low vibrations. Even better, it’s low noise so you won’t disturb the peace while you’re tending to the lawn.

It’s also important for me to point out that this mower engine is incredibly fuel efficient so if you want to get the most out of each litre, it’s certainly a great option.

Performance

One of the things that sets the WEBB WER510SP apart from its competitors is how well it moves over even rough terrain. This lawn mower is designed to perform well in a whole host of conditions so no matter whether your garden is smooth and well manicured or a little rough around the edges, the WEBB WER510SP will take care of it.

What’s more, it’s kitted out with four easy manoeuvrability wheels, with larger rear wheels, and when you couple this with the self-propelled drive, you’ve got something that’s beautifully easy to use without compromising on cut quality.

Self-Propelled Drive

As I’ve mentioned, the WEBB WER510SP comes with a self-propelled drive which means that you really don’t have to exert any effort to get the job done. This lawn mower is designed to make working on sloped gardens a cinch; no more pushing yourself to the limit just to get the grass looking half decent!

However, if you don’t have the need for a self-propelled lawn mower, there is another option. The Webb WE410HP 4 has many of the same features but is a push mower which might be better for smaller or less rugged gardens.

Just remember that this only a single speed self-propelled mower, so you are bound to the pace and speed of the mower.

Blade and Deck

Webb Classic WER510SP Blade and Deck

The WEBB WER510SP has a 51cm cutting deck which makes it ideal for slightly bigger gardens or those on the larger side of medium. However, if you don’t need something quite a large, the WEBB WER510SP has a younger brother in the form of the Webb WER460SP which has a 46cm cutting deck; perfect for a medium lawn and you won’t miss out on any of the other features.

The deck is made from steel which means you’re getting something sturdy, robust and reliable. While it is a little heavier than some competitors, it’s not too much of a problem since the self-propelled drive means you won’t be the one lugging it around.

Handles

There’s not too much to report about the handles on the WEBB WER510SP. They’re comfortable enough to use with easy to reach controls. But what I really liked about the handle is that it folds down at the mid and lower deck points making the lawn mower much easier to pop in the shed when not in use.

Height Adjustment

I cannot stress enough the importance of having a good selection of cutting heights on any lawn mower. This enables you to cut the grass to different lengths depending on factors such as when it was last cut, the season and of course, your personal preference.

The good news is that the WEBB WER510SP comes with a choice of seven cutting heights ranging between 25mm and 75mm so that’s pretty generous in my opinion. Moreover, these can be changed through the use of a single lever on the side of the lawn mower so there’s no complicated processes; just choose your height and off you go!

Mowing Features

If there is anything that’s really impressed me about the WEBB WER510SP petrol mower, it’s that it comes with four, yes four, mowing options.

There is the traditional cut and collect method and you’ve got the added bonus of a hefty 65 litre grass bag so trips to the bin or composter are kept to a minimum. Moreover, this is a fabric grass bag which drastically improves airflow meaning that the clippings can be more tightly packed together.

You also have a side and rear discharge option so that the grass clippings can be deposited directly onto the lawn. Alternatively, the WEBB WER510SP comes with a mulching plug which is perfect if you’re looking to improve the health of your grass. When installed, the mulching plug will keep the clippings in the deck where they will be finely chopped up and delivered back to the lawn. As a result, all the nutrients within the clippings are given back to grass, leaving it looking much healthier and greener.

Grass Collection Bag

The Webb Classic WER510SP comes with a 65-litre fabric grass collection bag, that will fold down flat for easy and compact storage. There is no grass full indicator on the collection bag.

There is also the inclusion of a solid metal handle to make attaching and removing the collection bag from the mower easy.

Practicalities

Overall, the WEBB WER510SP is a very user-friendly lawn mower that doesn’t have any complicated processes and is a tool that you can pick up and get on with the job. I like this very much as not everyone has the need or want for an overly complicated bit of kit.

The WEBB WER510SP is also very unlikely to malfunction since this is a very reliable brand. However, in the event that it does, you are covered by a two year guarantee which gives you that little extra piece of mind.

Should You Buy This Model?

Webb Classic WER510SP Conclusion

If you have never used a petrol lawn mower before then I’d recommend this as an excellent first product. It’s the perfect choice for people who need something uncomplicated and yet that performs impeccably.

Anyone with a bigger garden, especially if the terrain is a little questionable, would find the WEBB WER510SP to be an invaluable garden tool. However, if you have a smaller garden, I’d recommend going for one of the smaller WEBB Classic models.

Conclusion

I’m a fan of WEBB at the best of times, but when I came across the WEBB WER510SP, I was more than impressed. There really aren’t a lot of things wrong with this lawn mower; it’s versatile, it’s robust and it gets the job done quickly and efficiently. The only ‘downside’ is that it doesn’t have a rear roller or electric start option but these are by no means a deal breaker.

For a British company with such a good reputation, I had high hopes for the WEBB WER510SP and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a little more expensive than some petrol mowers but not so much so that you’ll have to remortgage the house to get your hands on one and I’d absolutely say that the quality of the cut as well as the mower itself, is worth the small investment.

  1. This mower has an inherent problem in that the fuel primer fails and prevents the mower from running, my research shows that this issue is happened to large numbers of this model, theWebb WER150SP. Is there a fix for this fault? Do Webb offer one? My mower has developed this fault and is only 2 years old.

    1. Hi, thanks for sharing this. I am not aware of any issues and would advise that you contact Webb support directly.
Let me know how you get on. Thanks
