WORX WG730E Review

The WORX WG730E is a cordless lawn mower that is supplied with a 4Ah battery and charger that produces 35 minutes of run time. It has a 30 litre grass collection box, a 30cm cutting width and has 3 cutting heights that range from 30mm to 70mm.

If you know me, you will know that I rate the WORX lawn mowers very highly, so when I heard about the release of their latest budget cordless mower in June 2021, needless to say, I was more than excited – and I wasn’t left disappointed. While there are some drawbacks to this model, if you are looking for something quick, efficient and easy to use, then this might be worth considering.

The WORX WG730E is ideal for smaller gardens thanks to the 30cm cutting width and compact design. It also has a 30-litre grass collection box made from durable plastic, which is perfect for anything below 200m². It comes with three cutting heights, which admittedly, isn’t the most generous number, but it’s more than enough to get the job done in a reasonably versatile manner.

For what you are paying, the lack of fancy features isn’t really an issue especially when you consider that you are getting the battery and the charger in with your purchase. In my WORX WG730E review, I’ll be taking a more in-depth look at this exciting new lawn mower.

WORX WG730E Full Review

Main Features

  • 30cm cutting width
  • 3 cutting heights
  • Plastic 30-litre grass collection box
  • Safety key
  • Power share battery
  • Brushless motor
  • Cut to edge
  • Foldable padded handle

Power System And Battery

One of the things that impressed me most about this lawn mower was that, despite its budget-friendly price, it comes with both a battery and a charger. This isn’t just any battery either, but a powerful 20v 4.0Ah battery that has a decent running time. This is largely in thanks to its coupling with the brushless motor which is much more adept at providing longer run-times.

Furthermore, this type of motor is a lot more powerful, allowing you to achieve a more efficient and faster mow. The motor is quiet, and the batteries can be power shared across the WORX range. If you’re already a fan of the brand, you’ll be able to add another battery to your collection.

Battery Charger

WORX WG730E Performance

The WORX WG730E lawn mower comes with a battery charger included, delivering a reasonably fast charging time of 125 minutes. I can’t stress enough that what you’re getting here is excellent value for money. If you’re in the market for an affordable mower with a reliable battery system, then this should be a serious contender.

This lawn mower comes with only one mowing option; cut and collect. If you’re into mulching then you’ll be disappointed, but for people who just want a simple and easy to use piece of garden equipment, then you’ll be more than pleased with this. Furthermore, with the addition of the cut to edge technology, you’ll be able to cut closer to walls and fences without leaving a huge area of uncut grass.

Deck and Blade

This lawn mower has a 32cm plastic deck, which, as I mentioned, has a cut to edge design, allowing for closer cutting. Plastic is a durable material, but it’s never going to have anything on steel. That being said, since this is a mower that is designed for lighter use, it’s unlikely that you’ll need to test its durability by putting it through its paces.

Cutting Diameter

WORX WG730E Cutting Diameter

The WORX cordless lawn mower boasts a 30cm blade and cutting width which is ideal for smaller gardens. Anyone with a lawn less than 200 square metres will find that this is a very effective tool.

If you’re short on storage space, then this is a great model to consider. Not only does it have a compact design, but it also comes with a folding handle that collapses at both the midpoint and where it connects to the mower. This reduces the size of the mower making it much easier to pop into the shed or garage. The handle also has soft padding to absorb any vibrations and generally provides a more comfortable mowing experience.

What’s more, this one also comes with a carry handle allowing you to move the mower around the garden more freely.

Height Adjustment

In terms of height adjustment, I was surprised to see that your choices aren’t huge with the WORX WD730E. However, I must point your attention back to the cost of this machine and when you consider everything, three cutting heights doesn’t seem like the end of the world.

If you want a lot of versatility from your lawn mower, then you may be better looking elsewhere. However, if you’re happy with the three height settings, this will suit you down to the ground. The height range between 30mm and 70mm, which I’d say was more than ample for most domestic situations in the UK.

That being said, adjusting the height isn’t quite as simple as I would have hoped. Unlike many other mowers that feature a single hand central height adjustment lever, this one has to be manually adjusted by both the front and rear wheels. This is achieved by turning the mower over and locating the axle in the appropriate slot. This involves turning the mower on its side, and therefore for safety reasons the battery and safety key should always be removed before performing this task.

Grass Collection Box

WORX WG730E Practicalities

This lawn mower comes with a 30-litre grass box. This is perfectly in line with the size of the cutting width and is ideal for smaller areas. The grass box is made solely from plastic which offers a suitable level of durability for this lawn mower and also features a handy full indicator, so you know when it’s time to empty.

If you have a walled garden or a lawn that runs right up to the garden fence, then you’ll find this to be a very effective lawn mower. This is thanks to the cut to edge deck design which allows you to get a much closer mow, meaning you won’t need to spend as much time trimming the edges after the mow.

Furthermore, with the folding handle, this is a very practical option for people who are limited in space. We all accumulate a lot of garden equipment, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll find it hard to part with your favourites. But compact equipment like this means that you won’t have to sacrifice any other tools to fit it in.

Should You Buy This Model?

WORX WG730E Conclusion

Now, while I wouldn’t actively recommend this model to people who like their mowers with a little more show and flash, this is the ideal model for those who just want to get the mowing done and get on with their day.

There is no complex operation, aside from the finicky height adjustment and being compact and made for smaller gardens, this will suit “no fuss” or novice gardeners perfectly. Many people own a lawn mower to tend to less substantial lawns and these machines don’t need a wealth of complicated features.

If you already own a lot of WORX tools or are looking to start a collection, then the power share battery is a great little addition. What’s more, for people who want a cordless mower with exceptional power, the brushless motor delivers on all fronts.

The WORX WG730E is a lightweight, compact and nifty little lawn mower that is perfect for small spaces and people who want something budget friendly. But despite its low cost, this lawn mower is still bursting with features that make it ideal for day-to-day use. A 30cm cutting deck and cut to edge design makes tackling your small lawn almost effortless.

Yes, it may not have various mowing modes or loads of cutting heights, but what it lacks in versatility, it more than makes up for in power thanks to its 20v 4.0Ah battery and its 3500rpm. You’ll get a clean, accurate cut in very little time, allowing you to get on with more important things than gardening chores. This is a new mower for 2021 so make sure you get in quick as I have a feeling these are going to sell like the proverbial hotcakes!
