Gtech are renowned for their innovation and simplicity with the Gtech vacuum cleaner range, so does this cordless mower continue to transform the cordless lawnmower industry?
This mower is indeed packed with features found in more higher end cordless mowers and certainly has the ability to cut a lawn up to 400 meter square (roughly the size of a tennis court and a half) , but it needs to be compared to it’s nearest rival, the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300, to judge how good this mower really is.
To compare Gtech Cordless Lawnmower to other cordless mowers in higher or lower price range would distort the results, these two mowers are probably the best performing cordless mowers on the market today.
Below I’ll be detailing all the features and functions of the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower, both good and not so good and then comparing to the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300 so you understand exactly what you’re getting for your money.
- Rating: 8.9/10
- Covers areas reaching 400 m² (4,000 FT²) in size
- 36V 4Ah Li-on battery lawnmower
- Blade length: 43 cm
- Number of Cutting Height: 6 (30mm-80mm)
- Grass box capacity: 40 L
- Charge time: 300 minutes (60 minutes with optional fast charger)
- Free run time: 40 minutes
To give you a visual representation of the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower please watch the video below:
Like many cordless lawn mowers, the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is powered by a Lithium-ion battery (36V) and electrical motor which it will charge in around 5 hours. The batteries are removed from the mower for charging and storage.
In comparison the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300 the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower takes 3 more hours to charge, but will last for 40 minutes with the ability to cut a lawn up to 400 m² (4,000 sq. ft). Now 5 hours to charge may sound too long and is indeed longer than many other mowers in this price range, but remember the cutting width of the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is some 13cm wider than the Flymo and weighs 6kg more.
If you simply think waiting 5 hours for a full charge is not going to work for you, then there is a solution! Gtech provide an optional fast charger that reduces the charge time massively to only 1 hour, however this comes at a price (currently £99.99). The Gtech Cordless Lawnmower along with the Fast Charger does make this mower one of the quickest to charge giving an impressive 40min mowing time, probably enough time to cut the average size UK lawn twice.
Another great feature of this mower is a visual battery gauge on the top of the mower/battery; you would think this is standard with all cordless mowers, however, it’s not. Well done Gtech for including this!
As mentioned above the charge to cut ratio is not good without the optional fast charger and is an aspect which lags behind its competition, but in saying that the mowing/charging time doesn’t directly affect you, after all the lawn will still be getting mowed!
Also the power system is completely electric so it produces zero emissions and works extremely quietly. Which is quieter? well there’s not much between them but would say the Gtech is slightly quieter than the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300.
The great thing about these mowers is that you can set out to work at any time you want without it annoying you, your family or your neighbours, and with zero emissions look after the environment as well.
The battery can also be used their new Gtech leaf blower.

The Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is equipped with one 43cm wheeled carbon steel metal mower blade that gives them two very effective benefits…
- Carbon steel metal blade generally wear less quickly than plastic blades which results in you needing to replace the lawnmower blades more often than a lawnmower that uses a metal blade.
- Metal blades are generally sharper and provide a cleaner cut to the grass blade, resulting in a neater, tidier and superior finish to your lawn and garden. The metal blades on the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower can be sharpened when needed unlike plastic blades.
This again does not necessarily put it ahead of competitors but it’s good that Gtech have taken advantage of what is clearly the most effective cutting system in the market.
Close to edge cutting
Gtech have designed the deck to assist with cutting as close to the edge as possible to limit the amount of trimming required. The deck design enables it to cut grass close to fencing/walls, leaving a smaller uncut grass area around the edges.
In order to combat the changing season and to continually improve the look of your lawn, you can adjust the height at which the Gtech cuts at. This is done very easily using the lever located on the side of the mower.
It lets you choose to cut from anywhere between 30mm to 80mm with 6 separate cutting lengths. Just make sure you don’t set it at the shortest setting from the start when the lawn has significant growth, instead start at a much higher setting and gradually work your way down. This gives the areas of small grass to catch up with the long, resulting in a more even garden.
As well as being able to sharpen the blades, it is also possible to purchase a replacement blade. Replacing the blade is relatively easy for anyone with basic DIY skills and tools.
Cutting Diameter and Height
The cutting diameter of the mower is a very respectable 43cm mowing capability. Now, compared to it’s counterparts with widths as little as 30cm, this means you get the job done quicker with fewer passes and means you can mow larger lawns on one charge. Now there are larger cutting diameters available, however, I believe the 43cm width is just right as it could also be beneficial if it’s to be used in a smaller areas and lawns with narrow strips. This is a definite benefit over the Flymo.
When you need a mower that’s light in weight and going to get in the smaller areas of your lawn but not take too long to mow the lawn, this may well be the best option. Yes it does make the mower that bit heaver having the wider cutting diameter but it’s worth the trade-off as you get the job done quicker so more time to sit and enjoy your work! The wider cutting of this mower also helps to ensure it cuts closer to the edge and boundaries in your garden meaning less edge trimming to do after mowing.
One thing the Flymo 300 does slightly better is the height adjustment. On the Flymo 300 there is a single lever on the top side of the mower with a large handle, this makes adjusting the height very smooth and easy. The height adjustment on the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is smaller and adjustment seems to be that bit more difficult and not so nicely balanced as with the Flymo. This is no big deal as you are not constantly adjusting the height but worth a mention anyway.
Grass box capacity
As with all smaller cordless lawn mowers the grass box is not going to hold as much it’s larger counterparts, however 40 litres is a comparable for a mower of this size and is 10 litres more than the Flymo 300. 40 Litres allows longer periods of use without needing to empty grass clipping as often.
The grass box on the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is very easy to remove by simply lifting the flap and unhooking and the grass clipping empty from the box with no obstructions. This is a hard topped collection box with a carry handle at the top.
The grass box features an flap which tells you when it’s ready for emptying. There’s even an additional handle at the end of the bin to assist in carrying to the waste bin.
The light weight, small size and fold away sliding handles make this mower excellent for smaller lawns or lawns with smaller strips of grass and for storage where space is limited.
The height of handle can be adjusted up and down as it slides into the lower section, this is a nice feature for two reasons. The first, you can adjust the handle to suit the most comfortable mowing position for you; second, it helps with reducing the size of the mower for storage.
This really will make lawn care much easier and really makes the entire experience much less dependent on you struggling with a heavy over sized mower. This mower is not as compact as the Flymo when folded down. Dimensions when folded are:-
Lenght: 1015mm – Width: 460mm – Height: 400mm
This mower is also not as light as the Flymo but does not seem to affect how easy this mower is to manoeuvre around the garden, this may be to do with the large wheels and solid build quality.
As with all cordless lawn mowers, not being tethered by the cord not only makes it easier to mow the lawn, but safer, quieter and more environmentally friendly.
Does this make it more practical the it’s closest competition? well, yes I think it does for people with smaller lawns and limited space for storage. There is also a very handy and well positioned large raised central handle that makes carrying the 17 kg mower to the garage or shed very easy.
What I really like about the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is the addition of a removable safety key that disables the lawnmower to help prevent accidental starting. This is a nice feature not found on similar cordless mowers that gives peace of mind around children.
To release the Safety Key, you simply press the sides together then pull it out of the slot. The key is tied to the mower to prevent loss however, replacement keys can be purchased if lost at a very reasonable price.
Like a stripey lawn? Well sorry the Gtech Cordless Lawnmower does NOT have a roller at the rear.
If you simply have to have a stripey lawn then you can either purchase a separate roller or you may want to consider the Flymo 300 as it does have a rear roller.
This mower does NOT have a mulching facility. Want to know what mulching is and the advantages, then click here.

- Battery level indicator sometimes a little difficult to see.
- No rear roller for lawn stripes.
- 5 hours to charge unless you purchase the optional Fast Charger.
I really struggled with this mower to find any significant downsides. The features are great and all seem to work well for a mower at this price point. The build quality cannot be faulted and it performs as it should.
Now the above may sound trivial and are common to most cordless mowers but should be taken into consideration anyway. They are part of the package and it’s better being aware of them before a purchase than after.
Overall this is a very good mower from a British company (mower is manufactured in China), I actually rate it higher than the Spear & Jackson 37cm Cordless Rotary Lawnmower due to it’s light weight, portability and fantastic build quality.
What makes this mower and indeed Gtech stand out is the 30 day money back guarantee. So if you are still unsure if this is the mower for you, try it for 30 days! Another great thing about buying from Gtech is the 2 year warranty (this includes the battery) backed up with the excellent Gtech customer service.
It’s a shame there is no roller or option to install one on this mower, but feel the this is made up for by the quality of the incredibly precise cut.
The extra features like the removable safety key is a nice touch but one that you most probably never use, besides you want features that will help achieve a lovely looking lawn with least amount of work and effort.
The Gtech Cordless Lawnmower is very proficient at cutting varying lengths and thickness for such a small and compact cordless mower. It’s worth mentioning that by cutting more regularly and avoiding very long or wet grass this should avoid not putting too much strain on the battery. Remember to always keep the battery charged and in a dry place over winter.
But do I think it’s better than its closest competitors?
Yes I do!
It is one of the more expensive mowers at over £300 but this really gives good value for money and you would be very hard pressed to find a cordless mower that performs this well, and has such a compact/good build quality and is backed by a 2 year warranty that includes the battery.
Overall I think this is a fantastic mower and I encourage everyone with a garden under 400 m² or less to purchase one. In fact I think it’s one of the best mowers at this level you can get right now!
Should You Buy This Model?
Well there are a few factors to consider first, whether or not you purchase this model really depends on your garden and situation.
To give you some guidance on which type of customer would suit this model best, below I’ve got a list of the categories they would fall under:
- People with lawns up to 350m² in size.
- People who require a wide cutting deck of 43cm.
- Like the convenience of having no power cord or have limited or no access to a power source in the garden.
- They don’t mind cutting the lawn regularly and not allow the lawn to grow too high.
Of course this is open to interpretation so if you don’t fall under every single one then don’t worry I’m sure you’ll still love this product. It has loads of great features that I’m sure you make use of even if you’re not its perfect customer.
