Introduction
The Hyundai HYSC1500E is a 1500W electric scarifier, aerator and lawn rake that has a 36cm width deck, 45 litre moss and grass collection bag. It is supplied with a 15-metre power cable, 5 cutting heights, 3-point folding handles and 3-year domestic warranty.
It was great to finally get my hands on the Hyundai HYSC1500E and produce this, and my accompanying video, review. My lawn in the front garden was in need of some TLC and what better way to do this than using, the new to the market in 2022, electric lawn scarifier from Hyundai.
It’s one thing to keep your lawn mowed and neat, but what about what lies beneath? Regularly raking, scarifying and aerating will ensure that your lawn remains much healthier as water can drain more easily and the soil can ‘breathe.’ The scarifying process removes thatch from your lawn, and therefore removes the ideal environment for the moss to thrive.
But having the right equipment to allow the grass to be strong, healthy and outcompete the growth of moss and weeds, is a must and while you can do it manually, isn’t life just so much easier when using a powered tool? That’s why I love the Hyundai HYSC1500E electric lawn scarifier, aerator and raker as it makes this type of lawn care super simple. Not to mention that it’s bursting with features to make life even more easy and convenient.
In this Hyundai HYSC1500E review, I’ll be running you through the main features and helping you decide whether this is the right electric tool for you.

Performance
As you can see from my video review below, the Hyundai HYSC1500E is a great choice if you want to effectively remove deep seated moss and thatch from your lawn. It does a really thorough job of lifting out even stubborn thatch and gets deep down to leave your lawn looking and feeling healthier. It is worth mentioning here that I did use moss and weed killer two weeks prior to scarifying and raking, which contributed to the effectiveness of the process.
With a 1500-watt motor, this is a powerful piece of equipment that will get the job done quickly and efficiently. But if you need even more power, the good news is that the Hyundai HYSC1500E also comes in a boosted 1800-watt version. This is great for slightly bigger gardens. However, it must be said that any lawn larger than 200m² would benefit from a petrol powered scarifier as you are somewhat tethered by the power cord. You can see from my video review that on my 160m² lawn, the power cable was not an issue. But if I was using this scarifier on my larger lawn, then I most certainly would not want to be limited by the length of the power cable.
Blades/Drum System
The Hyundai HYSC1500E is supplied with two drums. The first is the scarifying drum with its 20 hardened steel blades that are mighty and robust. The second is the raking drum attachment with its steel tines which are strong and effective at raking debris from deep within your lawn.
When it comes to durability both drums are effective and do what they are supposed to do. Again you can see from the video how effective they are and how much moss and thatch is removed from each pass.
Exchanging between the rake and scarifier drums on this Hyundai HYSC1500E couldn’t be simpler. No tools are required as you simply have to flip the machine over and slot the right blade in place and tighten the bolt with your hands. Height Adjustment
One of the things that I really love about the Hyundai HYSC1500E is that it has a lot of versatility. Regardless of how severe the moss and thatch may be, there’s a height setting to suit your needs. There are five in total; -12mm, -9mm, -6mm, -3mm and +10mm and these are changed smoothly and easily with the help of a single lever located on the side of the machine. When scarifying my lawn I did the initial first pass set to -6mm to check if this setting was at the right level for my lawn and its condition. If you are planning to overseed the lawn then you may want to set this on a deeper setting of -12mm.
Many people ask what the +10mm setting is for as it will not scarify nor rake the lawn as above ground level. This is true and is simply designed for easy transportation on hard surfaces.
Deck Working Width
The Hyundai HYSC1500E is ideal for small to medium gardens with its 36cm raking diameter. It’s big enough to get the job done without being so large that it becomes difficult to move around. However, if you do need something even smaller then there is the 32cm version which is perfect for very compact spaces. What’s more, you still get many of the same features as the 36cm Hyundai HYSC1500E. If on the other hand you have a large lawn over 200m², I would recommend investing in a petrol model such as the Hyundai HYSC210.
Collection Box Capacity
The Hyundai HYSC1500E has an average size collection bag, which is made from fabric and folds flat, it’s lightweight and at 45 litres is adequate for the 36cm deck. Having said that, these boxes are never big enough and as a result many find it quicker to scarify without the box and then use a leaf blower or garden rake before disposal. It attaches securely to the machine and easy to remove and empty.

Practicalities
What really caught my eye about the Hyundai HYSC1500E was how well this electric scarifier and raker performed at removing moss, thatch, and weeds from my lawn. It was powerful and a pleasure to use with outstanding results (see my video review above). Using this machine will literally save you hours if not days of hard work and your lawn will certainly show the benefits.
Also, the machine is extremely user friendly. With conveniently located controls that are simple and easy to understand, even someone who has never used this type of equipment before could get to grips with it in no time at all. Changing the blades / drums is one of the easiest and quickest I have experienced.
What’s more, the Hyundai HYSC1500E is fitted with a padded handle so you’ll be extra comfortable when using the machine. When you’re done, the handle folds down making the whole thing easier and more compact to store. There’s even a wall bracket included in the box, so you can mount it on the wall out of the way when it’s not in use.
The Hyundai HYSC1500E features a 10-metre cable which gives you sufficient reach around the garden. If your area is quite small, you might not even need an extension cord because of this.
Many garden tools are heavy and cumbersome, but that is not the case with the Hyundai HYSC1500E. At just a little over 13kg, this is a relatively lightweight piece of electrical equipment that won’t see you putting your back out!
Warranty/Support
When you purchase the Hyundai HYSC1500E, you will get a 3-year domestic warranty as standard. This is typically longer than most which are usually one or two years, so it’s good to know that you have got that added peace of mind should you need it. Spare parts and support are readily available here in the UK, so again more peace of mind.

Should You Buy This Model?
The Hyundai HYSC1500E is the perfect tool for anyone who has never used an electric scarifier / rake before. It’s so user friendly and easy to get to grips with that even a total newbie could use it without a problem. But for people who are already used to this type of equipment, the Hyundai HYSC1500E is still a powerful delight to use and with a diverse range of features, it’s an excellent choice for people who want an effective, quick and efficient way of removing moss and thatch from the lawn.
Conclusion
I’ve been very impressed by the Hyundai HYSC1500E and think that this is something well worth investing in if you want to take the hard work out of maintaining the health and appearance of your lawn. Yes, it is true, you could hire a lawn scarifier / raker, but then why would you when the Hyundai HYSC1500E is such fantastic value for money. Remember, you should be scarifying your lawn at least twice per year, so having a lightweight and compact machine readily available in your shed or garage, is an absolute must. OK, scarifying and aerating isn’t a job you’d do as often as mowing, but it’s something that many people shy away from because manually, it can be extremely hard work and will never achieve the same level of results.
The electric Hyundai HYSC1500E makes life so much easier and is a real joy to use. It’s versatile enough for almost any need and is great for small to medium sized lawns. And for the price, the features and results you get are really quite superior!
