There’s a tree in my front garden with some pretty thick branches that I’ve been meaning to cut back. However, if I was going to tackle this dense foliage then I needed a tool that would be up for a challenge so I purchased the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer 2 in 1 tool and I was not disappointed.
This tool comes with a hedge trimmer and pole saw attachment making it incredibly versatile. Rather than using two separate tools, it allows you to tackle all aspects of trees, hedges and bushes with great ease. It’s an incredibly user-friendly piece of equipment.
In my Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer 2 in 1 review, I’ll be looking at all of the features and giving you a run down of what to expect from this tool.

Performance
I’ve given the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer a fair trial, as you can see in my video demonstration here. It’s really easy to use and delivers an exceptional performance without the user having to put in a whole lot of effort. Yes, I found that I had to make a few more passes and exert a little more energy when working with very thick foliage but on the whole, it was a pleasure to use.
I found that the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer gives a really impressive running time and even after I had used it to trim back my tree, there was still almost a full battery left. If you’re looking for something that’s going to perform and keep going then this is a tool I would highly recommend.
No two gardens are the same and this means that each user will have varying needs in terms of how they cut their trees back. What’s great about the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer is that it comes with 7 different cutting angles for the head which makes getting to those hard to reach spots a lot simpler and again, makes using the tool much more comfortable.

The Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer is an excellent piece of equipment with several features that make using it a breeze.
Battery and Charger
If, like me, you already have batteries for the Murray tool range then it is possible to purchase the bare tool. This is a great way to save money as the bare tool is considerably cheaper.
However, if you’re new to the brand then you’d buy the complete package which comes with a 5.0Ah 18v battery and a single charger. This battery can be used with a range of 18v Murray tools including grass trimmers, leaf blowers and lawn mowers.
It’s really easy to install the battery which simply slots into the top of the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer. What’s more, you’ll get up to 2 hours of run time per charge so it’s ideal even for tackling longer, more demanding jobs.
Blade
When I tested the hedge trimmer attachment, I made sure that I attempted to cut a 16 mm branch which Murray claims this 41 cm tool will easily handle. Sure enough, the hedge trimmer made it easy to deal with these thicker branches although I will admit, I needed to apply a little more force. Still, the result was clean and neat.
The 20 cm chain saw attachment is designed to cut even thicker branches up to 15 cm which was ideal since I had a super thick branch that needed cutting back. I took under 30 seconds for the chainsaw to cut through and it did so with ease, leaving a smooth and clean finish. Considering that the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer is a battery powered tool, I was pleasantly surprised at how robust it was and how well it handled the challenge of thick branches.
Handle
The Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer comes with a large handle that’s ideal for offering extra support. Couple this with the shoulder strap and you’ll find it really easy to control this tool which is important as it weighs 6 kg which can start to feel heavy when you’re doing a lengthier job.
What I also really like is that the handle can be adjusted to better balance the tool and make it more comfortable to use.
Not only this, but the telescopic shaft allows you to adjust the length of the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer making it easy to get a higher reach. The tool extends up to 260 cm but with your height and arm length, I think this would easily give you a reach of over 3.5 metres – potentially even 4 metres.
Assembly
When I unboxed the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer there were quite a few pieces to put together. However, as you can see from my YouTube video, assembling the tool is quick and easy.
Potentially the most complex part of putting it together was the chainsaw attachment. However, this was largely because it’s a little fiddly; the indicators on the tool show you which way to install the chain so it’s very straightforward.
Other than that, you’ll need to attach the handle which involves adjusting the height and tightening a bolt and fit the shoulder strap onto its hook, should you wish to. Although you can leave this off if you prefer.
Attaching the pole saw or hedge trimmer heads is super simple. They slot on and can then be tightened to ensure everything is secure.
Even if you’ve never assembled a garden tool in your life, this is a foolproof process and you’ll be outside trimming and neatening your garden in no time at all.
Warranty
When you purchase the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer, it comes with a 5 year warranty on the tool itself. I found this to be a very high quality, well made piece of equipment but it’s always nice to have that peace of mind that, if anything were to go wrong, you are covered.
The warranty on the battery is a little shorter at 3 years but in the scheme of things, that’s still pretty generous. I have seen plenty of manufacturers that only offer a 1 or 2 year battery warranty.

Who Should Buy This Model?
If you are someone that has large trees in your garden or needs a tool that has a good reach then I think the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer is an essential piece of equipment to add to your tool kit.
However, if you’re only in the market for a hedge trimmer to deal with shorter, less dense foliage then there is a standard hedge trimmer from Murray which would be ideal for this type of work.
Conclusion
Being a battery powered tool, I didn’t think that the Murray Pole Saw & Hedge Trimmer would perform as well as it did. However, after testing it, I was really pleased that I made the decision to buy this tool and it’s definitely something that’ll come in handy in the future.
