The P1PE P5100SPBS petrol lawn mower has a wide 51cm cutting width and a large 60 litre grass collection bag. This mower is fitted with the prestigious Briggs and Stratton 675EXi engine that delivers 163cc self propelled performance, low maintenance, easy starting and low noise mowing. The P1PE P5100SPBS has 6 height adjustments from 25mm to 75mm and has the ability to “cut and collect”, “cut and side discharge”, and “cut and mulch” the grass cuttings. The deck is made from steel and can be easily cleaned by attaching a garden hose to the machine’s deck whilst running.
Position One Power Equipment or P1PE have created a solid quality lawn mower and fitted it with a reliable and powerful Briggs and Stratton Easy Start 675EXi 163cc 4 Stroke petrol engine.
The P1PE P5100 mower comes with two engine choices, the Briggs and Stratton on this model or the Hyundai IC157VE 173cc engine on the P1PE P5100SPE model (P1PE P5100SPE review here). Though you will pay a little more, I personally prefer this Briggs and Stratton engine for the following reasons.
- Easy maintenance – no need to ever change the oil – just check and top up.
- Fitted with a “Super Lo Tone” muffler that significantly reduces noise levels.
- Fitted with a Float Feed Carburettor for optimised fuel delivery and better performance.
Having said that, the Hyundai is also a fantastic engine, both are Euro 2 low emission, low maintenance and extremely economical petrol engines. I just believe it’s worth paying that bit extra on your investment to get the benefits of the Briggs and Stratton Easy Start 675EXi engine.
- P1PE P5100SPBS (this review) = Briggs and Stratton Engine
- P1PE P5100SPE = Hyundai Engine
The large 51cm steel deck size and the extra large 60 litre grass collection box means this mower is designed for medium to large sized lawns (over 200m²), and to be efficient at getting the job done with no fuss.
Another great feature of this P1PE P5100SPBS is its flexibility with regards to the cutting options it offers as it has the ability to “cut and collect”, “cut and mulch” and “cut and side discharge”. This mower is also self propelled to get you around your garden quickly and easily, and its rear-wheel drive system helps to cope well with steep inclines or banks.
As with most quality mowers, the handles are extremely comfortable with soft grip foam and fold away easily for compact storage.
The P1PE P5100SPBS has good spares and parts backup and comes with a 2-year warranty from P1PE.
The more than adequate 6 cutting heights from 25mm up to 75mm are easy to adjust with a single height adjustment lever. It perhaps would have been advantageous if this mower had a higher setting of around 85mm to deal with really long and neglected lawns.
The height adjustment can be seen in the video below.
