Summary
For many homeowners with smaller gardens or lawns, a push mower is the ideal solution for regular grass cutting needs. As someone with a relatively small but flat garden, I was on the lookout for a lightweight yet effective manual mower.
That’s when I came across the Handy Hand Push Mower. What immediately stood out was its compact and ergonomic design – at just 7.5kg, it promised to be much easier to wrangle around my garden compared to my old heavy rotary mower. I was also intrigued by its unique power source – rather than a cord or battery, it utilises one’s own upper body strength for propulsion😊.
I decided to put the Handy Hand to the test over the summer months to see if it could hold its own against more heavy-duty mowers. In this review, I will share my experiences using this push mower on a regular basis. I will assess factors like manoeuvrability, cutting performance, comfort and how it coped with longer grass and inclines.
For gardeners seeking a low-maintenance option that is lightweight yet hardworking, the Handy Hand could be an appealing choice. Keep reading to find out if it has earned itself a permanent place in my tool shed.
Main Features
- 18L rear grass collection box.
- 30cm cut.
- Very lightweight and easy to operate.
- No electric cables or fuel to worry about.
- Assembly is straightforward and no tools are required.
Blades
This mower comes with five steel blades. I would recommend that these blades are cleaned after each use to prevent rust from appearing. This will help to pro-long the blades life.
Height Adjustment
This Handy Hand Push Mower has 5 adjustable cutting heights ranging from 16mm to 41mm so that you can trim your grass to any length required. Once set up correctly, this mower performs extremely well with a fine cut due to its scissor like cutting action and great striping of the lawn. I found that it does not cope as well with grass longer than around 10cm as the longer length meant that push required was just a bit too much for me. I found by removing the roller completely and manually balancing the mower to cut at about 4cm gave a better outcome and avoided getting the shears out on longer grass.
Cutting Diameter
The 30cm cutting width blade is quite standard for most push mowers and is ideal for small and most medium lawns. Whilst the blade is quite narrow, its powerful cutting system allows for a more precise mowing experience. It is also perfect to manoeuvre around ornaments and plants whilst still maintaining a professional finish.
Handy Hand Push Mower comes with a rear roller for better stability and creating nice stripes on your lawn.
Grass box capacity
It has a rear 18L collection box to collect the grass clippings as it cuts. I noticed that the grass collection box can fall off when in use which although isn’t a big problem, but can be frustrating.
Practicalities – This compact mower doesn’t take up much storage room, only weights 7.5kg and requires no power.

Should You Buy This Model?
Overall, an innovative mower perfect for gardeners looking for great value and who have small to medium gardens and still require a lot of functionality. The Handy Hand Push Mower is well built and designed to produce nicely groomed lawn with stripes. It is environmentally friendly and operates quietly so that it isn’t heavily dependent on parts and servicing. My only gripe was that the bolts on the handle can become loose and even fall off, so it’s worth checking that they are on tightly before use.
I feel that this model outweighs the Bosch AHM 38 G Manual Garden Lawn Mower whose cut is just not as precise and can take several attempts to mow over each area without producing stripes.
We all know the advantages of cylinder mowers including the outstanding cut quality and low cutting heights when compared to other types of cutting methods. This is the main reason they are widely used by professionals on golf courses and lawn tennis courts.
