Summary
The Flymo Hover Vac 280 is an ergonomic and simple-to-use hover lawn mower powered by a 1300-watt motor. It is designed for small to medium-sized lawns and weighs just 8.4 kilograms, making it lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. The mower has a 28 centimetre cutting width and comes equipped with a 20-litre integrated grass collection box. It features a metal blade for a cleaner cut and is built to last with good quality materials. For compact storage, the handles fold flat and there is an integrated front roller, allowing the mower to be easily wheeled in and out of garages and sheds.
This updated model replaces the previous Easi Glide 300. While keeping the same 1300-watt motor power and noise levels, Flymo was able to reduce the overall weight by 400 grams, improving efficiency for small lawn maintenance. Its lightweight and ergonomic design make it well-suited to tackling smaller grass areas.

Power System
The Flymo Hover Vac 280 works off a 1300-watt electric motor housed towards the top-front of the machine. Being a small electric motor, the sound level when active is a low 78.8 Db(A), and it also reduces the vibrations felt by the operator.
The motor spins the blade to a constant 4,300 rotations per minute, on the operator activating the power trigger.
Power Cable
The Flymo Hover Vac 280 comes with a 10 metre insulated power cable that is safe and rated for the machine. If this is too short, Flymo does make other cables that are longer, and third-party vendors also make Flymo compatible products.
Blades
The cutting edge is made from strengthened steel and coated to extend the lifespan of the blade. This blade is double the price of the replacements for the Easi Glide mowers, but the improved strength should help with the economy.
Features In Detail
Height Adjustment
Cutting height adjustments are made by adding or removing a spacer from between the blade and the motor. The main attachment-bolt needs to be removed to do this, and each spacer is the difference of 5mm.
Cutting Diameter
This Flymo has a 28 centimetre cutting diameter that works out to 0.78 square metres cutting area per rotation. Though as with all the Flymo range, it will take more than one pass of the cutting area to trim all the grass beneath the blade.
Roller (Stripes)
There is no striper or roller on the mower, but the weight of the machine will drag the grass in the direction of travel. The front wheel is there to stop it catching on paving stones, so do not expect the machine to travel in a perfectly straight line.
Grass Box Capacity
The grass box on this Flymo Hover Vac 280 is 20 litres in capacity, and the design is small to keep the size and weight of the machine down. Even with a small box, it is impressive how so much grass cuttings will fit into it.
Practicalities
The handle folds down on to itself to make the whole unit easy to store up on a shelf. And because of the extremely low weight, any mobile individual should have the strength to lift it. There is no extendable handle, operators over 6 foot may find it to be on the low side.
Another great feature of the Flymo Hover Vac range of mowers is the inclusion of a roller at the front of the mower. This is not to produce a stripy lawn but to assist in wheeling the mower around when not in use. This is a nice touch from Flymo as it saves you having to carry the mower to the shed or garage.
One slight limitation of this Flymo Hover Vac 280 is the fact it does not have dual starter handles like the Easi Glide range. Having two starter handles can assist when manoeuvring the mower around flower beds and obstacles in your garden.
Safety Features
The Flymo Hover Vac 280 comes with the power cord connected to a moulded plug for an added resilience to dropping and the wet. To start the machine the operator must, disengage the safety switch while gripping the throttle with the other hand.
Mulching
There is no mulching option on the Flymo Hover Vac 280. But the efficient cutting and the way that the clippings are sucked through to the box ensures that the grass is well compacted.

Should You Buy this Flymo Hover Vac 280?
The Flymo Hover Vac 280 is an updated version of the Easi Glide series. The motor is the samepower at 1300 watt and by reducing the blade length, Flymo has managed to keep the power up while reducing the weight of the hover mower.

Conclusion
While a shorter blade may seem counterintuitive for a lawn mower update, Flymo’s design compromise has resulted in a stronger, more durable blade. A shorter length promises greater reliability in maintaining an even cut at high speeds, reducing the risk of an unbalanced or damaged blade.
Taller users may find manoeuvring the machine uncomfortable, as it may require hunching over for extended periods. However, for most homeowners the compact size is ideal for tackling small-to-medium lawns efficiently.
Priced under £100, this hover mower offers excellent value. Its lightweight and easy-to-use features allow lawn cutting with minimal effort versus models with unnecessary add-ons. Built to last, the Flymo Hover Vac 280 will provide reliable service for years to come. As an established brand in hover mowers, Flymo understands how to design functional, durable machines at affordable prices. Replacement parts are also readily available, unlike some competitors, keeping ownership costs low over the long run. HOWEVER
i NEED A REPLACEMENT BLADE AND THEY DO NOT EXIST, I HAVE CONTACTED FLYMO AND HUSQVARNA AND NEITHER OF THEM HAVE A 28cm REPLACEMENT BLADE IN THEIR CATALOGUES, WHAT THEY SAY IS A CORRECT REPLACEMENT IS A 30cm BLADE WHICH IS OF COURSE TOO BIG.
I HAVE SPENT ALL DAY TRAWLING THE NET AND CONTACTING SUPPLIERS AND THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SUITABLE 28cm FLYMO FITTING REPLACEMENT BLADE.
UNLESS OF COURSE YOU KNOW DIFFERENT…………………………….!
